I think I have knife collector's block (if you could call it that). I know I want to expand my collection, but I don't know what to look at.

This is my collection right now:
  • Benchmade 943 (satin blade PE)
  • Kershaw Chive
  • Kershaw Skyline
  • Kershaw Blur (black CE)
  • Kershaw Skinning Knife (black)
  • Opinel No6 (beechwood/carbon steel)
  • Opinel No8 (olivewood/stainless)
  • SOG Flash I
  • Spyderco Delica 4 (black FRN PE)
  • Spyderco UKPK (FRN maroon PE)
  • Spyderco Dragonfly2 (FRN PE)
  • Victorinox Tinker

I'm looking for blade length of ~3.5" or smaller. I use my knives primarily for urban EDC tasks, with the occasional hike/camping trip thrown in. Under $200 please. I'll leave everything else open-ended. What am I missing?

The blade is a little longer than 3.5 inches but I think you need a Zero Tolerance of any model. They are heavy but are built like tanks. Maybe a kershaw leek with s30v blade. A mini grip sounds like a good idea and with a 200 dollar price range you can customize one and have enough to buy another knife.

Bark River. Essential. You could go big. Sebenza? Could sell one or two to get there. Falkniven? Swamp Rat? Need some Victorinox alox. Farmer. I want a 940. Great knife.

I am going to agree with rboyson. a ZT 0350 would fit your criteria perfectly, come in well under the budget, and be a very nice little knife. you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm uneasy about making the $400 leap for a Sebbie, and I don't especially like smooth handled knives. The ZT 0350 and an Alox Farmer are definitely going on my list though. :)

If you have an Opinel, you don't need any other knives. :D

But if you're like me and like to accumulate knives as a hobby, I can't help but notice some gaps in your collection. Your list is lacking any traditional pocketknives, for example. Case Sodbuster or stockman. USA-made Old Timer from Schrade.

Check out the recent topic on gentleman's pocketknives for some good examples of classy and useful pocketknives in more modern styles.

Any interest in Scandinavian-style fixed blades for hiking? Hard to beat a Mora for low-price value, but there are many nicer brands out there too like Helle, Karesuando, and Ahti.

Any of these directions would be completely different from your current lineup. Just the thing to break your collecting block?

Consider taking a look at some MCUSTA knives. They may not be quite robust enough for camping, but the fit and finish is excellent for the price. They're portable, handsome, and should fulfill most urban tasks.
