Grrrrrr....Lost my first knife today

Well I lost my first knife, a SOG Flash I. To anybody that says the deep carry clips make a knife harder to lose, I managed to do it. The thing that stinks is that I was on campus, so I'm sure someone picked it up already. It's a bummer because I really was fond of that little blade.

So, I want to replace it, but I'm not sure if I should replace it with the same thing, or something similar.

I already have a scallion and Half-ton, which are great similarly sized knives, but what else do you guys recommend for a little knife of about 2.5 inches. I'm not looking for traditional slip joints however.

UPDATE: Well I ended up finding it, and it was in a very funny location. I got up to go to the store and felt something hard hit my leg as I swung my coat around. As you can see below, it was clipped on the tag at the bottom of my coat tail. When I took it off at some point throughout the day, the tag must have swept up under the clip and lifted it out of my pocket without me feeling it. I'm glad to have found it because I love this little knife.

The SOG Flash knives are decent so if you really liked it replace it. You might also check out the Buck Assisted openers, they're awesome, I have the Impulse, that is one good knife. Kershaw's assisted openers are all great as well, in a similar length to that I'd check out the Leek or the Sweet. The SOG Twitch is good too but it's more for light use.

I haven't lost a knife yet, but I thought I had lost my custom Begg Glimpse in blued damascus. I couldn't find it for two weeks and finally found it tucked in the leather boot of my truck's manual shift lever. Whew! Luckily your knife is more easily replaced.

I'd say get something different and then see if you still yearn for it and maybe replace it later.

I like my Flash II a lot even though it's not my best knife, but there are tons of other knives out there to try. Most of my other knives are Spydercos and they make plenty of "little big knives."

It's sad to lose a knife, but worse is what I am experiencing: I have the very strong suspicion that someone who I thought was a very good old friend has stolen 2 knives from me (and a few other things over the last 3 years). I feel pretty bad about this suspicion, but next time he comes I will hide a camera for proof and I can only hope that I am mistaken. But I'm pretty sure that my intuition is right: I experienced too many "losses" after he was around.

if you like the assisted opening check into some kershaws. they are very well priced, and are a lot of knife for the money.

In 50 + years of EDU of some sort of knife - I have broken a knife a average of about once every 5 or 6 years ( never feel particularly smart afterwards). However - there should probably be a trail of lost knives behind me.Loosing knives drives me crazy. This seems to only happen after I've used 'em for awhile and finally got a nice easy to re-sharpen edge established.
I hate to challenge murphy or find myself yet again needing St.Anthony's help - but I have managed to break this pattern for the last ten years or so.Still break one once in awhile - but not loosing'em. 1.)Clips help a lot. 2.) Closing and re-cliping to the same place as a matter of habit helps. 3.) Take advantage of using a folder -when you're done with it -fold it and stow it . Clip it to the same place everytime. 4.) Retention paranoia helps -if you can just check that it's still there - maybe you'll remember where you last used it/left it?Yah -so you're patting your strong side pocket edge or belt area a bunch -so what? 5.) Dropping knives into a pocket just doesn't work for me -I think they're there -too often they weren't. 6.) Really great clip systems show up once in awhile - Joe Caswell's EDC clip is simply brilliant. Grant and Gavin Hawk's clip on their MUDD knife is not something that'll loose a knife for you on almost any condition short of jumping out of a perfectly fine airplane ( and probably not then). If you think about it - we use a clip on most folders everytime we open or close the knife - better clip designs are something to be appreciated.

It's those knife gremlins, they do things to your knives when you're not looking. Them things are annoying, they keep dulling out my favorite Swiss Soldier's Knife :grumpy:
Good to see that you found it, and that my theory that knives are always lost in the stupidest of places is still holding true.

Must have been a great feeling to find it again.

It's funny because I was going to Wal-mart to buy a Skyline to replace it since it is a light duty EDC. It seems like once you move on and come to terms with losing something and decide to buy a new one, it appears. However typically it happens AFTER you've bought the new one.

Congrats on finding your knife. Of course that's no reason not to get another one.

Oh damn. That hurts two ways.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't imagine a good friend doing that to me. I hope you catch him.

Every now and then I will notice a draw-cord loop catch on my right-front-pocket knife clip as I put my jacket on or sling it through my bag's should strap. Here is one novel solution (and I live and work on a campus too, long term grad student style)---get a bigger knife! Seriously, something with a little more heft will be more obvious if and when it gets grabbed from your pocket, which is pretty much the only time it will get lost if you don't leave it lying around or have crappy friends (that sucks btw). I'm not talking a ZT, but maybe a Benchmade or Spyderco. My favorite all-around blade is still the Spydie Caly3 in G10. The BM 940 is also absolutely excellent, and a little bigger. I personally am holding out for the Kershaw Volt right now. 4" blade with tiny deep carry clip---I am drooling... good luck man

I like a happy ending as much as the next guy, but it's too bad you didn't find it AFTER you bought the Skyline. Because it's an excellent knife, especially in damascus. :D

Glad you found it!
I've almost lost my Baliyo several times the same way. I've had a loose string in my hoodie catch on the thin wire clip and lift it out. I often go "WTF where is it?" and seconds later I see it danglin off a string. Never had that happen on my SOG Blink which is always right next ot the Baliyo, prob due to the stiffer and BROADER clip.
