Please elaborate.

I don't like mine either, but I always list the little things that bugs the hell out of me.

ikd im so upset right now i had to but the knife down and walk away cuz i am really mad and i dont want to cut myself on acident

The good news is that the Edge Pro has a good reputation and you can sell it for close to what you paid for it. I didn't like it because you have to splash water around and the setup time was more than I was willing to put up with. But it's still an awesome system. You might want to give it a chance.

Otherwise, you could try the Wicked Edge system, which is expensive but awesome. I like using the Wicked Edge system. It makes knife sharpening fun. You should be able to sell it easily, too, if you don't like it.

The Sharpmaker with diamond rods and the fine rods added, along with a homemade stropping pad is about as simple and easy as it gets. And it's not too expensive.

Seriously? I've been too lazy to think about selling it due to the prospect of carefully packaging and wrapping the thing into a fairly large box(especially that ceramic rod). But the fact is, I haven't touched it in over a year, so I figure I may as well sell it and buy myself 500 spare Micro-Mesh belts for my Work Sharp:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

I'm getting pretty damn good at using it, and I'm almost done at redoing the botched grind on my ZT 0551 which resulted in a rounded tip, and then that weird straight angle on the previously curved blade when I tried to regrind the tip. After that, I think I'll put a perfect mirror edge on my Para2 in S90V.

So the edge pro system, which has been proven to be one of the best sharpening systems on earth, sucks because you can't get it to work?
:jerkit:

No system is idiot proof, any system takes a degree of skill and practice to use.

Very true. I'm confused though. Why would you spend that much money on something without fully investigating it first? You mention you thought it was something else? Like what? The videos clearly show exactly what it is and how it is used. What am I missing?

Well maybe put it away for the night and try again tomorrow. Sometimes I get real angry about things not working out and when I go back later in a different frame of mind they work out better. It takes time to get used to new things and if you give it a chance you may find that you like it very much.;)

Some things aren't entirely obvious until you actually use it. Like having to change the tape between every stone, the differences in width between each stone that constantly forces you to mark the edge, the painfully slow reprofiling of a bevel even with the 120 grit stone, and ESPECIALLY on modern wear resistant steels.

However, not having steady hands and the fact that the system doesn't clamp the knife down seems like something someone should have caught on before actually buying it.

Still, I don't hold anything against the Edge Pro. Fact is, it WAS the best and most accurate sharpening system when I bought it. But nowadays, things seem to be progressing very smoothly in the field of modern knife sharpening. With all these new and exotic steels popping up, that's a very good thing too.

It's a GREAT time to be a knife obsessed maniac:thumbup:.

i have been looking at thjis thing for 3 years now and have been reading all kinds of good things about it andit just didnt live up to what everyone else said. its kinda like when you see a new movie and all of your friends see it first and they say how amazing it is som it gets all hyped up then you see it and its just ok. that is how i feel

i like clamping systems better cuz i dont have steady hands and cuz they are idot prof

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot :D

Seriously though - did you watch the videos? What kind of knives did you try to sharpen? (hint - try sharpening a wide blade that you are not afraid to screw up first...)

From what Ive seen, it clearly CAN produce incredible edges, commonly the sharpest edges out there. Don't blame the tool, man. If its not what you wanted thats ok, but it works well enough to make sharp and notoriously beautiful edges on almost any knife.

It takes practice and patience...watch some of the videos off of youtube that bladeforums members have posted and pay attention to the technique used. U can get crazy sharp edges it just takes a few sharpening sessions to get the hang of the system.
