Grunge under SAK covers

Today I took the covers off of a SAK Executive that I carried for some years. Not sure how many, could have been 10.

I "lost" it and bought a second one. Of course a week later I found the first. I carry the second because the first one has a chip in one cover.

I am preparing to do a mod with it and when I took the covers off today they were really grungy under them. The only SAKs that I have taken covers off of were new ones that I was modding.

Presumably this disgusting grunge is typical for an EDC SAK? Is there any way to minimize this? Soaking in soapy water? How about a water pick squirtin in all crevices, tooth pick & tweezer slots?

Or just resolve to accept it?

I would remove the scale tools and place the knife in an ultrasonic cleaner with warm water and a dollop of ammonia.

I am going to hijack my own thread and ask a tangential but related question.

I will want some new covers for the Executive mod. The only covers that I can find are the standard red. I would love to have blue or yellow.

Are there any sources for 91mm covers in various colors that my search missed?

My apologies! I am working several mods and getting myself mixed up. Grrrrrr

I was able to get some 91mm covers in several colors.

Still needed is covers for the Executive which is 74mm.

Are there factory covers in different colors or will that need to be custom covers?

I was only 4mm off. My memory is as good as it used to be, but it is not as long.
