gsa powerlock problems?

I was recently given a Sog Powerlock for my birthday. And I found out from the previous threads at bladeforums that it is a military issue since it lacks both the ¼” drive and scissors. I would like to inquire whether the gap due to the absence of those tools would present any potential problem. (e.g. loosening of other tools?). Also, where could I find a guide and information on cleaning the tool and maintenance the black oxide coating?

I also own a Sog Stingray which has helped me a lot in my work as a field veterinarian. Tough little knife.

Thanks and more power to SOG!!!

Sam

Master windu, Welcome to BladeForums. :D

Why don't you drop an email to SOG and ask them about this, they will be glad to help I am sure. I am going to advise you to contact them here, info@sogknives.com , or call 1-888-SOG-BEST. They will also be able to advise you on the cleaning, good luck and keep us posted on how you like the tool.

The SOG Stingray must be a wonderful knife, I have heard a lot of good comments about this knife in the past.

thanks robbie!

already e-mailed sog and this was the reply:

There shouldn't be a problem with the tools being loose. There are
washers in there to take up the extra space. But if you do have issues,
you can send it in and we can take care of it for you. Also if you're
interested in the other tools we can sell those separately

The Powerlock that I bought came with a cleaning solution, I will check tonight to see what it was and will post it tomorrow.

I opted to clean my powerlock the way I usually clean my folders. Warm water, then white lightning after drying. Also oiled the whole thing then wiped it dry. Seems to have worked well since the tools open up smoother.

I’m glad that I got the version with a separate plain edge (w/c I have yet 2 sharpen further) and a fully serrated blade (w/c I use most often). Miss the scissors tho…

The only thing I didn’t quite like bout the tool is the tiny lanyard ring. They could’ve fitted a larger, thicker one in the gap between the awl and the Phillips. U think that would work? Hehe :D

I guess everything’s been said about compound leverage. Kudos to SOG for making such an efficient tool!
