GSI cup cracks - anyone else?

My Glacier cup has some wider-than-hairline cracks, some with gaps, around the rolled rim. Don't look like they are into cup walls.

Don't think it will affect function, but maybe harbor some nasties.

Anyone else notice or experience this??

Yeah, like this?

I've had two do it. I've given up on them.

These aren't as extreme, just thru the rolled edge, not into the body.

Thought these were the bomb....

Oh well, an new quest...

That's how mine started, just on the lip. In all fairness, I did use them to heat water over fires for soup and what-not while camping or hunting. But I don't see the point of a steel cup if you can't use it as a small pot. I have one made of titanium that has held up perfect, but won't nest my Nalgene or Kleen Kanteen. If I could find one the size of the GSI cup, it would be perfect.

Probably, but I haven't found one in the local stores and really haven't looked that hard online. The Ti cup I have is a Peak. I'm sure they make one though.

That's lame about the GSI. Gonna have to upgrade. Snow peaks solo cookset will all nest in a Nalgene pocket. Do search for it in the W&SS forum and you should find it.

Snowpeak Titanium pots and cup are awesome!!!!

I find the 700mL solo cook pot with lid to be the least used because of its tall narrow shape. A single wall 600mL cup will see a lot more use then that one. The cup cleans a lot easier too. ;)

My double wall 450mL and 600mL cups really work well with hot tea/coffee in freezing temperatures (10K feet at 25F for example).

Go to Snowpeak.com and check out the nesting options for their pots and cups. Their stoves work very well too. In the end, I bought plates, bowls, "silverware", and all the common pots and don't regret any of my purchases. Solo, I nest a double wall 450mL cup, with a single wall 600mL cup, a Snowpeak stove, and a can of gas. It's small lightweight and effective for what I need.

I believe this is the one I'm talking about. A guy in the W&SS forum was able to get the whole thing and the nalgene into his 10X4 maxpedition holder.

I've got that Mini Solo set up paired with the GSI to accompany the Guyot.

In the 12x5, Solo in first, then nestle Guyot, then capped with GSI, shamelessly plagerized from W&SS thread. Nice kit IMHO.

I have the GSI w/Guyot in a Camelbak and was checking the other day when I saw the cracks in the GSI there.

Will have to check the other couple I have kitted.

GSI recently had a bad series of molds for their cookware. My rafting buddy just returned an anodized aluminum dutch oven with a warped lid (came that way from the factory) Don't know if that's the problem in this case, but it's worth looking into-their customer service is good.

That stainless cup probably cracked because they skipped/botched the anneal process, prior to rolling the rim.

Go buy the Snow Peak Trek 700 cup. Mine is great.

I've had several of mine crack, and several others that won't fit a clear Nalgene. They do fit a white Nalgene which is a bit smaller.

I've switched over to MSR's, which (I think) are much better quality, no fit problems, and I like the handle better. YMMV.
