Went to a local store, and they had the GSI Spice Missile, much to my surprise. The tag said $3.99, which also surprised me. When I got to the counter, the lady said it would be $9 and some change, but since the tag said $3.99, they gave it to me for that. Lucked out once again.

The product:

Disassembled. Notice the middle has larger holes, for leafy spices:

Dual chambers, for 6 spice choices. Obviously you twist the shaker to align with the proper side:

Bottom also comes off, and stores a filler cap, so you can fill one side at a time:

Cool little kit. WIll take more photos once I have it filled. Thanks for looking.

They are playing Simon and Garfunkel backwards!

Seriously though, that's a well thought out and highly packable bit of kit right there.

Slightly off topic, but have you found a good way to carry small amounts of your favourite liquid condiments, like hot sauce?

Nice score Dubz! Lately I have also been getting interested in toting flavoring on the trail. My current solution is a homemade seasoning I put into an empty plastic basil shaker w/ a screw on lid. Mine is a blend of salt, fresh cracked black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, powdered chicken bullion, and a dash of cumin. It is universal enough for most dishes.

Google '2oz nalgene bottle'. They are little plastic bottles (supposedly there are squirt top ones but they seem harder to find) that are perfect for liquids like hot sauce and oil. I've seen people carry around Sriracha in them.

Srirachi is the stuff I have in mind. I thought of using an eye dropper bottle with the hole opened up a bit. I may pick up one of these spice kits, gsi makes some neat outdoor gadgets.

I use the 2 oz. nalgenes for olive and vegetable oil and sometimes butter.

That is a neat spice kit find! I'll have to look for that locally.

Codger, I used to bring olive oil camping until I read an article on oil flash points, now I bring peanut oil for campfire cooking. Makes life a lot easier!
Hard to beat good old butter though.

Ain't skeered of flashpoints! :D It is useful for a lot of things besides cooking over open flames of a campfire. And while we are speaking of spices and condiments, check out the Coghlans squeeze food tubes. They are like refillable plastic toothpaste tubes and not expensive at all. Oh, and another use for the tiny nalgenes... premeasured ground coffee for an overnighter.

I'm pretty sure REI.com carries the 2oz nalgene bottles. Most local backpacking stores do as well.

Nobody uses the tiny little ziplocks? Can get them online pretty cheap and they weigh less than anything else.

I use vegetable oil or canola. Higher flash points, doesnt burn as easy and doesnt alter the taste much at all. I love olive oil but not on everything. It does has a different flavor profile. Canola and vegetable are very neutral. Peanut has a different taste as well. So I stick with a more neutral oil.
