GSO-5.1 custom spear point

I wonder if the specs are the same. The listing says they were ground to a spear point - but I thought all of the GSOs were already considered spear points? I think this is a great job taking what would of been ugly betty's or scrap and turning it back into a great tool! And while slightly higher, the price is still less than most (if not all) go for on the secondary market!

But it isn't really custom, is it? Doesn't seem quite like the correct label. More like hand-worked.
I guess you have to call it something to delineate it is a second that has had special TLC to bring it up to first quality.

It does seem more properly like an SE (Special Edition), rather than a custom, or even an LE (Limited Edition) which would signify an LE run. When I think SE, I think more one-offs like these. Some folks are going to get a nicely fitted knife, though, no matter what designation they end up going with.

It looks like he dropped the point a bit more, and the description says that they are thinned out more. It seems like he re-ground and re-finished a series of 2nds that had surface defects that could not be removed by the typical finishing process. It also lists them as all 20CV with no options, natural canvas with a black sheath. You do get the cool custom tag under the flag. :)

5.1s are a drop point if you want to be technical. And yeah I wouldnt call it a custom. Maybe just customized or limited

It's way more subtle, but I guess the concept reminds me of the Bussekin "custom shop" where one can have alterations made to existing models, or buy a pre-altered version of some model. Guy is just barely starting this, though he has released "limited" versions in the past including the jimpless and scandi and wood-handled 4.1s.

I'd like to see production start to catch-up with demand... but then BRING ON the GSO 7/7 Recurve Bowie-point Bolo with blue TeroTuff scales, brass bolsters, and orange G10 liners!!! :D (if you're gonna go, go all out?)

There are 7 of the GSO-5.1 Spearpoint knives. Because there are so few, I've been quietly listing them one at a time, with a SKU that matches the serial number on the blade. We consider these customs because they are not the same as a normal production run. They have been customized, one a time, based on whatever was going on with that blade. Each blade is going to be a little different due to the hand working process. The term "Limited" is being reserved for full production runs of models that are not part of our normal line-up. For example, the GSO-4.1 Scandi knives that didn't work out are going to get retuned and will be available as a "Limited Edition" model.

That seems right to me.....full, short runs for LEs

Here's my takeaway... for you knife modders and customizers out there, 3V can be ground on AFTER heat treating. That's all I'm going to say...

After heat treat the blades are tempered. Usually around 400 f. Just make sure you stay below that temp.

They're way over my pay scale and ability but there are water cooled grinding systems out there. Wouldn't be too hard to mod if Guy was using something like that.

I was lucky enough to get #2 and #3. I called Guy to thank and let him know how nice they are and he told me the story behind them. They took a regular CPM20cv 5.1 and filed it down to a spear tip. This shortens the knife a small bit and he made the choil bigger and more comfortable. Additionally the scales are custom sculptured to the knife because of the difference in the choil. Lastly they laser etched my name and my son's nick name on the spine just past the gimping. I must say it's a great deal more comfortable than my 5.1s, even the new gen one.

Thanks again go Guy for the great work!
