hey guys, who has experience with these two knives, and could share their your thoughts/opinions between the two? Pros and cons of each?

I'm so torn between deciding which i want more. It doesn't matter what they should/could will be used for, i just would like a general answer as to which you favour.

In the long run i hope to have both but that is a stretch for now due to my funds...so for the meantime which do you prefer and why?

And if you feel like it to: * G10 handles vs micarta preference?

-Feel free to show off your photos

I have the 7/7 with a swedge, so it is more of a fighter configuration than a general survival blade. Having said this, the 7/7 is enough larger than the 5.1 that for my liking, I carry the 5.1 under more circumstances simply due to the size difference. I love large knives, and I find them very useful, especially around the campsite. But, the 5.1 is on my belt more than any S! I own.

Ahhh yes i see, fair opinion :)
But do you find the 5.1 is large enough to be used defensivly if it needed to be?

The 7/7 is still going to be a while before it's available for general sale. Pick up the 5.1 now and see how you feel about it. If you think you'd prefer the 7/7 then you can pretty easily sell the 5.1 from what I've seen

I generally prefer G10 for the more vibrant colors, but a lot of people like micarta as it's more "grippy". The Survive G10 is pretty smooth

I've had both knives for over 2 years and have spent a TON of time with both. The 7/7, my avatar, is a pretty big knife but is is a VERY easy knife to use. It's also a fantastic hard use med/large blade that doesn't weigh a ton. It chops well, it batons well and cuts and slices very well. The 5.1 also does all of this well but in a shorter package and I find that I reach for my 5.1 much more often than my 7/7. I take both in the field when weight is not an issue. But if it is I usually just take my 5.1 and a 3.5 or 4.1 as a backup.

Guy's canvas micarta scales are the tackiest in the market, at least according to me, and for field use are better in wet and dry conditions than his G10 and linen micarta handles.

Not sure if I answered your questions but I hope I helped a little.

^ This is a great point. You should do this.

I went with the 7/7, but because I also went with the 4.1 and was going for a little more separation between the two in size. Also, have a Swamprat Infidu which is similar to 5.1 dimensionally.

As far as micarta and g10. Micarta is hands down the way to go for me for a user. Very grippy wet or dry.
For kitchen use, there may be some sanitary benefit to g10 as it won't soak in any contaminants and is a more "sealed" material. If washing properly afterwards, this may not be a problem at all but just something to be aware of.

Awesomw - thanks guys, i think i will pick up a 5.1 then come monday. 7/7 can wait lol

To answer this, the 5.1 will hit all of the vitals pretty easily. But you will give up reach compared to the 7/7. My opinion is that it is large enough in a defensive role. I will also say that I do like the S! Micarta very much, and would agree with everything that was said regarding handle materials.

In regards to micarta handles i have read commonly that people prefer the grip. However g10 has the advantage of being a stronger material plus it wont absorb any substances. But that is what i have read, not from experience

I went with a 7/7 and 3.5 with g 10. I mainly choose the g10 because it was a free up grade. :) I prefer canvas or the linen micarta for field use, and its usually pretty simple to grab a spare pair when your browsing their site.

As far as what I'd chose. Right now my 5.1 is my goto outdoors blade. It's weight/size vs usability is fantastic. Its a big blade in a medium sized package. Great for general use around the woods, not to large its cumbersome, but at the same time not to small to be shunned from chopping or batoning.

I'd say a 5.1 and if your just not pleased with the size they're still selling rather quickly on the market. Truth be told you can't loose no matter what you decide.

With all that said I still can't wait to grab my 7/7 and frolic through the woods. :D It is my most anticipated blade.

As for the g10. Its not terrible when wet but from a user perspective the canvas would much better suited.
