Hello, I'm new to the forum.
I just preordered a GSO 6 without a sheath thinking I would get a leather one instead, the sheath maker I looked at only offers ones for the "old version". I'm wondering if anyone knows if the newer updated knife will still fit into these sheaths or not.
Thanks

Great investment
I ordered a new 6 as well. Can't wait!

The specs for the new 6 are slightly different than the old. Can you say who the sheath maker is? I know Sagewood has plans to make sheaths for all new models and your guy might as well. I'm not sure how snug of a fit your maker makes though.

Sagewood is the one I was looking into. From what I understood, they are waiting for the updated knife also. I'm thinking about making my own sheath when the knife arrives. Of course I'll have to learn how to make a sheath, which would be a good thing.

Yeah, Sagewood! I think you'll be in good shape. He has a close relationship with SURVIVE! The wait for the blade and sheath will be worth it!

Can anyone else say for sure if the old spec sheath will or will not fit the new model 6? I'm assuming no, but I don't know how tight Sagewood sheaths are.

+ 1 to Sagewood. I have 3 of his sheaths and they are very nice.

Skystorm makes several sheaths that will fit. They are not made specifically for that knife but they many sizes and different options and their sheaths are made will with quality materials.

If you want something a bit nicer try Chubby Bear Leather. I have 3 sheaths for some of my Busses and he does GREAT work. They take forever and you might have to send your knife in for him to do the sheath but it'll be a custom sheath for your specific knife.

Mashed Cat also does a great job.

About how long do you figure it will be before these knives are out, next spring?

Not a problem. I know I didn't specifically answer your question, but Guy and Ellie really are way better with updates than any other company I know. Hang out with us while you wait :)

I think you will find that leather is not nearly as precise of a sheath material as is kydex. My sense is that the changes planned for the GSO line would not be so great that the old sheaths in leather would not fit the new design. I think the new design has differences predominantly in the handle profile. That said, the retention strap of the sheath might be the one area where a problem could arrise, but I don't that it will.

This is definitely more Guy's area of expertise since he drew the designs, but I think at least some of the old sheaths will fit the new models. The old GSO-5.1 kydex fits the new GSO-5.1, by complete accident. You do have a point about the retention strap on the Sagewood Gear leather sheaths. We don't have any here to test that out on.

We are making sure Sagewood Gear is getting new spec blades so those should start launching around the same time preorders are shipping out, depending on how busy they are.
