Hi, I'm wondering why the 7/7 doesn't have the love the 5.1 has? What are your guys opinions on the 7/7 is there something I'm not seeing here? I have just recently placed a pre order for the 7/7 and was sure I made the right call but now I'm second guessing myself...(I always do lol) I will mainly be using the knife for camping/hunting general use, I'm sure the 7/7 will be awesome I just want to hear some other opinions as like I said there doesn't seem to be much talk about the this particular blade.
Cheers, Steve

Hey Cteve!!

I think you will be thrilled with your purchase! I think part of the enthusiasm comes from use, and (I'm guessing here) but I think significantly more 5.1's made it into the wild than did 7/7's. The 5.1 is also in a certain sweet spot of size for a lot of people and so that's what led to it garnering the most orders. I think the main thrust of 5.1 enthusiasm at the moment is the fact that they are being delivered, once each model hits the delivery mark the chatter will definitely intensify. I think you will be very happy with your 7/7, but if not you could always buya 5.1 as well :)

I think you'll be surprised and very happy with the 7/7. What did you order? I have one on order and I can't wait to get it in hand. Those who have a 7/7 rarely get rid of them. In my time here I can count on one hand the ones I've seen come up for sale. I have a 5.1 and it is fantastic. Goes on all my outings, that may change when I get my 7/7.

I ordered my 7/7 with camo g10 and fde sheath.

And welcome to the S! Forum glad to have ya around.

My 7/7 has got tiger g10 and od green sheath, but I'll prolly try and get some micarta scales for it. The anticipation is killing me and I've had those same second thoughts about the size. Since I preordered, I've gotten use to using smaller knives, but I still feel that the 7/7 is gonna be an invaluable tool in the woods:)

I think Redwood is right. However, it's funny you ask because I've always wondered why the 6 or the 7/7 aren't everyone's favorite big knife. I LOVE my 7/7, check out my avatar. I use my 4.1, 5 and 5.1 more often but if I wanted a single knife option for the outdoors or camping I would use my 7/7. It chops very well, especially if you use a lanyard. It batons very well, it stays sharp, you can do fine work with it, etc. My only issue initially with the knife was the handle length, but after 50 hours+ of work with it I have no issues with the handle length. I would be nice if it were a little longer but not necessary (the new ones have 5" handles I believe & I've pre-ordered one). At 4.5" it's comfortable and with no hot spots even with a bow divot. Same with the 6, which is my second favorite big knife, the 10 being a distant 3rd. Back to your question, do I love it like my 5.1...maybe, however I don't use big knives as much. I do appreciate what I can do with the 7/7 and I love that it's the most useful, practical and the easiest to use of my big knives that includes the 2 above mentioned GSOs AND Busse: SFNO, HellRazor, SAR-6 & Tank Buster, Ka-Bar USMC & Koster MUCK.

It all sounds good fellas, I have the green linen with a coyote sheath on order, cant wait till I have it in my hands.

I'm really thinking of getting a 7/7 also. I think the 5.1 is just more of an all-around manageable size (getting that also), but if you need something w/a bit more reach, but a lot of the same profile (same blade width as the 5.1) then the 7/7 is great. That's why I'm really thinking of getting one too!

- You are 100% correct and you'll be 100% happy too!

My 7/7 has a false grind/swedge, hence I carry this mainly in a defensive/combat role on my weight bearing vest inverted on my weak side shoulder. Since it has the false grind, I know the tip end of the knife is not as strong as the normal version. When I do carry it, it is sort of a single knife carry for me. It will be able to double as a firewood processing tool, but the primary role is as a fighter. As a result of this, I have not used this in any camp chores as of yet, but when I do carry it, it is chosen because it will easily double in that role if required to do so.

I think the gso 8 is more of a woods knife than the 7/7
The extra width and length will make it a better chopper

I think you're right. But I've had great success chopping with my 7/7 especially with a lanyard. Also I bet the 7/7 is a ton easier to use for smaller cutting and carving jobs. Trade offs & personal preference.

You are absolutely right there is no single perfect knife for every person and every application
I just think the 8 makes a good all around choice for my applications

I just pre-ordered one. Dang, that makes 4 S!K knives on order, without receiving the first one yet. But I really want one in this size range (this or the GSO-8) to take the place of my custom Simonich Aurora. That knive has taken a beating, and just keeps coming back looking for more. Looks as good as the day I got it. But I received it only a few months before Rob passed away coming back from a hunt that year, and I quit using it shortly thereafter. It is an heirloom to me now. So, I decided the 7/7 or the 8 would be a worthy replacement. And since the 7/7 is only about a week from pre-orders closing, and the 8 is way out on the production schedule, I figured I'd order the 7/7 and see how it did. If it isn't quite long enough (the Aurora's blade is 7.75), then I'll probably flip it when the 8 gets closer and order one of those. This size range, though, in the thickness that S!k does theirs, is a workhorse of a knife. Long enough to chop just fine, light enough to carry with no problem, and with the finger choil, can do pretty fine work in a pinch. So, while I can't "have a lot of love" for the 7/7 specifically, the size is a very good size for a camp/hiking knife, and could work for backpacking with very little problem, IMO.

I have faith that the 7/7 will be the sweet spot between defence and utility. Moreover I believe that the special significance this model holds for guy will show in the models fit and finish. Out of all my starter knives it is the one I am most curious to hold in my hand and feel on my hip.

I chose a 5.1 over the 7/7 because of the steel choice of 20cv. I live near the ocean and my knives rust when I use them for fishing. I did pre order an 8, but that will only be used in the woods.

Heads up if you didn't follow the Production Updates: GSO-7/7 Preordering will close on Jan 18th
