I have gone through the archive and seen a few comments on the full sized GT (button lock).

People tend to love them or hate them and not much in between.

What I'm wondering is how reliable is the lock? I haven't been able to trip one up but then again I was in a cutlery shop and didn't think it would be to cool to do much more than give the blade a firm wiggle.

Any info reguarding this knife in general would be appreciated

A GT was my EDC for about 3 years. The button lock has been solid and reliable. Close tolerance between the blade and handle prevents dirt from fouling the mechanism. It cuts like crazy, but the handle is uncomfortable for heavy work.

Thank you Tractrix, Your favorable write up is making it easy to justify buying one. I have come close many times to getting one of these beauties. I have an Emerson as my current faithful companion. No real reason to change other than mixing up my EDC rotation a bit. I am intrigued with different locking mechanisms (as I know many others are)

Something else that will prove usefull is the fact that it locks in the closed position too.

Did it take you very long to get used to the way it opens? The one I looked at needed a definate push of the button before manipulating the blade open (It also had the tear drop cut out vice the thumb stud)...It just occured to me, do you just press the button and give it a flick? :)

anybody know where ya can get a deal on a GT, they are pretty good, just hard to find imho.........i have an auto, works great, would like a full size tanto combo edge, if anyones listening.....

sifu,if you want a full size tanto, check out the mt socom elite, either manual or auto,a most awesome knife!

The GT can be opened or closed with the right hand, if awkwardly. It's most easily managed with two hands.

A MT SOCOM MA is my current EDC. It's a tough, hard working knife, but I still find the GT's hollow ground blade better for general cutting chores. Being hefty and without a pocket clip the GT stays home now.

You're probably thinking of the older GT which locked in the open & closed position. The newer(2-3 yrs ago)one has a thumb stud and a detant similar to a liner lock but stronger. It does'nt lock in the closed position. It also has a clip but I don't care for it much. Its made od the same material as the handle(hard coat aluminium)very stiff and located very low off the pivot. You're right about the tight tolerances. They are very well made knives.

:) I just ordered a GT with a tanto blade,it will probably be of the thumb stud variety.
Thanks for all of your inputs. This is a very informative forum, for instance Robb mentioned the detent keeping the blade closed. No where else have I been able to find that info. It is really to bad about the newer ones not locking in the closed position,I wanted something that would stay closed as well as open :( but hey.now I can convince myself to get another knife.:)(thanks Robb)
In truth,it sounds like the detent will be strong enough anyway and opening will probably be easier.I happen to have a piece of thick ti sheet (from a fire wall). It would make a nice clip I'm thinkin

eBay and www.azblades.com are good sources SIFU1A. azblades are cheap too ;)

thanks ric, have been looking for a deal on a GT for 12 months or so. i owe ya one, bud
