Does anyone know anything about this brand? GT KNIVES. They were bigger about 6-7 years ago, then they dropped off...but I've been seeing some around lately...

I think they went out of business. Last I heard they were sold to Big 5 Sporting Goods with the hopes of putting out a sub 2 inch auto for the California market. Haven't heard anything about them since and that was a couple years ago.

They are pretty nice, too bad you can't find them hardly.

(I have one of the large autos and the fit and finish is great.)

whatcha wanna know?

they are outta biz and have been for a while now, 3-4 yrs anyway.

they made autos and std knives, in several different sizes, imho there 2" autos were as good as 2" autos get, all of them were good knives though, and fairly reasonabley priced, with good materials and good F&F, they all had that push button lock, and IIRC the pocket clip was like a $10 or $20 option ie they dont all have clips (they are all drilled for clips though)

i have had a few of the autos, one std one, and still have a 2" auto i got for $30 when a knife co was going outta business, all have been good knives.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I somehow got the impression that GT knives was the same guy who now owns Mantis knives.

According to the latest issue of Blade magazine (September 2008). They did a feature on Mantis knives and the owner, Jared West: "he bought the existing inventory and machinery of GT Knives from Greg Bark and Todd Jones."

I had a couple of them about ten years ago or more. The early ones were very nice compared to the competition, but I think they had some quality issues over the years. I still have an automatic opening divot tool that was made by GT. They had t6061 aluminum handles and ats-34 blades IIRC. They only made a few models that were similar.

First post, dragging an old thread out from the dead.

I was digging through some things at my parents house, boxes of my old crap, and found an old GT folder. It's an early version of what seems to be the BL-S, or Button Lock - Serrated, the semi-serrated combo blade. It was given to me in the early to mid 90's, and unlike a post in this thread implies, not all GT bodies are pre-drilled for the clip, as this knife has no clip and no holes. On the blade it has the GT logo, "USA" and "ATS-34".

Anyone know much about this knife, beyond what is stated? Being an early GT, does it have trade value?
