Guardian 3 handle tweaks

I recently purchased a Bradford Guardian 3 for EDC. I love the knife, but the 3D micarta handles were a little uncomfortable where my pinky wraps around the end of the handle. To fit my little finger in the rear grooved area made the grip a little crowded.

Having recently been inspired to make wooden handles for a CRK Nyala, I though would try to do the same for the G3.

My initial effort replicated the micarta handles very closely, but this did not work with a lanyard, as I hadn't relieved the lanyard holes.

I decided to taper the back of the handles and relieve the lanyard holes.

You can see that my grip on this knife is a 3 1/2 finger grip, so the OEM scales are upturned just where my pinkie wraps, causing a hot spot. The tapered handles are much more comfortable.

These handles will be much more suitable for extended use, for my grip.

I might try this taper on the micarta handles, as the sheath retention is better with the original handles (the wood is very smooth)

Overall, a worthwhile mod.

I was working as a cabinetmaker/carpenter about 25 years ago. I got to the shop one day, and the owner was clearing out scrap pieces of wood. He was about to throw out multiple pieces of Jatoba, left over from some stairs the company had made for a job. I grabbed them. I'm still using this wood, I've made several hand planes out of Jatoba, and it works well as a sole for wooden planes due to its hardness. Fortunately I still have enough to make several more knife handles should the need arise.
