I just purchased a Guardian Tactical Helix Nano and wanted to share my very positive first impressions. I ordered direct from GT and chose blackwashed blade and clip, satin hardware, and jade green G10 scales. My last review was of the auto version of this knife, the Mini Helix, so i have borrowed some crossover verbiage from there:

The Helix Nano is, in my opinion, the perfect EDC knife design. It is the right size for daily carry. And being a manual action knife with a sub 3" cutting edge, it is a very versatile blade that can be legally carried in most places. CPM-154 is perhaps my favorite stainless blade steel and Guardian Tactical's heat-treat is known to be first-rate; on par with Microtech if not better. So you know the cutting ability is top-notch for any appropriate task.

The robust "leafy" blade provides the right amount of belly for most tasks while retaining an aggressive drop-point. It has an interesting compound grind, similar to Microtech's "nightmare", and incorporates a nice functional choil. It is notably beefier than the Mini Helix (see photos), which is a good thing. The skeletonizing on the blade is a nice touch which is likely intended to help lighten the blade for fast flipping. Added thumb studs provide some purchase on the blade in the event that it does not fully open, however these do not act as the blade-stop. Ceramic ball bearings and a very strong detent make flipping a joy. No special technique involved...just press hard and the blade flies out. Lockup is absolutely flawless along all axes. It utilizes a sub-lock with replaceable liner. Very pleasant to close.

The sculpted G10 handle (also available in CF an Al) feels phenomenally ergonomic in my hand. It is long enough not to leave my pinky begging for a lanyard, although it does offer the option with a lanyard hole that doubles as a glass/skull crusher. Jimping is in the right place all around. I usually prefer a deeper clip than seen here, however without a lanyard the exposed end makes for a smooth and pleasant draw. The sculpted backspacer with "icepick" jimping and built-in lanyard hole/skullcrusher really is nice.

As far as overall quality I must say that this knife leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. If I were given the chance to design my ideal knife and have it built to my spec, I don't think I could do any better than what already exists as the Helix Nano. No matter what blade finish or handle material you choose, you can be confident that you're getting a knife that rivals any production, midtech or custom at ANY price point. But you're paying the same price as an entry-level Microtech or mid-level Benchmade or Spyderco.

I recommend this knife to anyone.

Update: Still carrying every day and still loving it. Heat-treat has held up to daily tasks and the occasional abuse. Pleasant to sharpen using Lansky system. Deployment and lockup are still flawless! I've already given one of these as a gift, and will probably be picking up a second unit for myself in a different color combo.

Nice review :). Thanks for posting ! It looks to me a solid little knife. The design it's maybe not my cup of tea and find this a bit too much on the "tactical" side, but it's interesting, far from being trivial and - at least "on paper" - it seems to me it still retains a decent cutting capability in spite of its strongly characteristized design and shapes. Enjoy her in good health!

Picked up a beautiful Helix last week off the Exchange.....thanks William!! I was so impressed I ordered a red, 2 tone black blade with black hardware Nano!!
Cannot wait!!

I know I'm a little late to the party but I was looking at the CF model when I noticed a beautiful Damascus one. At well over a grand I can't justify that kind of cash (right now...) anyone know how often Guardian Tactical comes out with special editions? Any sprint runs? Or typically just one-offs?

Not sure, but don't hesitate to give Andy at GT a call! Great guy that will go as far as possible to help you out!
I could not find the Nano version I was looking for anywhere........Andy had it to me in 2 days!!
Here it is and I am LOVING it!!! Amazing flipper......just amazing!!!

Alright, one more question before I buy. It looks as though the full-size helix has a frame lock and the nano has what appears to be the offspring of a frame lock and liner lock. Has anyone had any issues with their nano lock?

None at all!! They both have lock bar inserts and lock up TIGHT!! Both are very easy to un lock.
Hope these pics help.

Done. Will post when it arrives. Thank you again for all your help. Now I just need to find a deep(er) carry pocket clip…

Does anyone know who designed this knife for Guardian Tactical? The reason I ask is because it looks very similar to my Microtech Vector. The oval cut outs in the blade are the same, the steel is the same, the handle is the same and to top it off this knife has the exact same crummy pocket clip as the Whaleshark.

I know that guardian tactical has some knife makers who used to work for microtech. In fact, if you look at their customs you will see some that are hand ground "Marfiones" if that is any indication. I thought it almost had a "Matrix-R" look. I actually almost purchased a vector. I was concerned that the protruding jimping would not be very comfortable. Have you used it a lot? Any issues with jimping or anything else?

For more than a decade the Vector has been my most coveted knife. It fits like a glove in my hand. As for the protruding jimping I never thought about it until your question. What it does do is give you an incredible amount of control over the knifes piercing tanto tip. I hope that helps with your question. Like many of us I have too many knives and if I had to sell them all my Vector would be my last to go... my Emerson Persian folder would be second to last.

after seeing Joes I got a cf two tone bladed nano in last friday and cant be more impressed by the quality--just awesome.

Still waiting "patiently" for my helix nano to come today. From my understanding: ain't nobody seen one like this...

Can we get pics of the two-tone CF?

After a short wait it is finally here. Only took 2 pictures with it being dark out. Lamplight really isn't doing the bronze justice.

I couldn't be happier! It is absolutely stunning. This thing flies open and locks up with ZERO play. One of the strongest detents of any knife I own. Will post more photos tomorrow.
