A note on a recent trip from Guatemala City.Discovered that the forks who monitor the x-ray machines there really take their job seriously when they spotted some metal in my carry-on bag. They didn't just polk around, they had me dump it and went through everything. They insisted that my CRKT Mirage (blade's under 4") could not be carried on - LEO ID not withstanding - and promised that it would be delivered to the plane crew and returned to me at my destination. Sooooo, some Guatemalan cop now has a new blade! They were going to take my SAK until I pointed out that the identical knife was for sale just beyond the security gate at the Duty Free Shop!
Finally, pointing to a poster of "forbidden" items, they confiscated a bottle of mosquito repelent ("explosive"!!!) and a roll of packing tape (could be used, they explained, to tie up plane crew!!!).
There is a definate down-side to argueing with 3 machinegun totting hombres, so........
Bottom line: if at all in doubt as to whether a blade can be carried on a plane outside of the US, CHECK your bag.
