Guess it happens: removing the clip, attaching the insert

Did not want to carry my small regular sebenza in my pocket, so ordered a CRK cordura sheath. Sheath was not what I thought it’d be (no picture on the site, just the listing on the price list), but the sheath worked fine – at least as important as expectations, A? With no pictures, ‘n all. Clip made draw from sheath a bit sluggish, so I ordered the CRK ti insert and screw. Existence of the insert an indicator that some others wanted to remove the clip, in the past. Insert/screw arrived; deployed my in the box hex. The hex did not sit/seat well in the screw recess. Got best-fit hex-to-recess alignment, applied torque. Hex turned out the top of the clip screw without budging the screw. Hmmm, I sed. Tried again, the key again raised right out of the recess as I applied torque. Hex fit other screws fine. Went to Sears, got a Craftsman precision hex, hoping to get better “downward” pressure. The hex shifted too easily in the somewhat loose recess. But the precision hex fit other screws perfect. Searsman sed hmmm, fiddled around with the hex, tried backing out the clip screw, no go. Hmmm, he sed. Searsman selected a T8 torx, inserted same, opined he could “do it” even tho it felt a little loose; eyeballed me for a nod. I sed “go, what can you mess up?” He pulled the screw right out with the torx. What a guy! So I’ll shop a little more at Sears. Got home, attached ti insert and new screw using a (new) Craftsman 5/64 precision hex. Everything is all good now; insert fits nice, draw from sheath smooth. Anne Reeve sez overtight screws contribute to spinouts like mine. Of all the knives CRK puts out, why mine? Oppositional wife, oppositional daughter, now, oppositional sebenza? I live a (somewhat) moral life: I expect (deserve) more. So much for expectations (and deserving) - go figure. Surprised that with less surface contact, the torx worked so easily versus the itb hex. By the way, also picked up a Craftsman precision T8. You never know when you might need one. All's well that ends well.

I had same problem with my small Classic, the "L" shaped hex key tool supplied by CRK would not budge the clip screw, it distorted and slipped in the hex socket. I used a screwdriver with a kit of hex bits, these keys were heat treated and poped out the screw with no problem.

The old story,,,,,"use the right tool for the job".

that you're not the only one with a specific problem. Allows one to consider that whatever's messed up may not be your fault after all. Tks for the comments.

Hey that's my line. I'm always asking "why me lord? why me?" I always get the same answer - oppositional wife, oppositional daughter, disloyal dog. I'm a good person if I have to say so myself. I deserve better. Get in line behind me ;)

Great wife, great daughter, loyal dog, and my hex key fit the clip screws perfectly! I guess I'm helping you guys average out. I don't think it's "why me, Lord?" I think it's "what are you trying to teach me, Lord?" (Although other things in my life have occasionally turned to crap!)

Never deliberated on dogs much in the woe is me outcry. Our k-9's have always LOVED my wife, but obeyed my commands more promptly. bruce has it mostly right, though: loving wife, loving daughter - think I'll go order the dog around some.

Oh this isn't about loving - (loving) oppositional wife, (loving) oppositional daughter - its about oppositional. I am samurai out of time. Like your dog, my dog loves my wife more. At least you can order your dog around. I think mine got a social promotion out of obediance school. :D

Im glad you were able to get your screw loose, but a while back we had a thread about the same topic, and it came down to the fact; that if you incert the long end of the hex key into the screw it fits tighter. Ive had a screw loose now and again, and i use the long end to tighten it up. :)

Guess there's something to that: I used the short end of the hex to begin with and after awhile, it didn't seem to matter which end I used because I'd already damaged the fastener. It ended well, of course, and if I can ever afford to get another Sebenza, I guarantee I'll remember to use the LONG end of the hex. Tk you and tks to all.
