So what would be your guess? :)

Like the choil addition. That's the one thing about all Condors that I wish they had. Btw I spotted it right away because I'm about to pull the trigger on a Bowie ii myself😉

To add a choil is relatively easy. I am not sure it will look good with the standard handle though: would probably need a bolster to visually separate it from it.

I would not call it quenching because the key is not to get the steel to a high temperature in the first place. In my experience it is not too hard to do just have to keep it in mind and pace the work. When I get concerned about affecting the heat treat I usually use a damp rag. It is plenty than enough if you use it often and that is not a problem because it is so easy to use.

I like that, I have a Jungle Bowie myself and you did a great job on that one.

Thanks! I bought it originally with that purpose in mind. First of all, for something like $40 you get a blade you can play with AND a sheath that fits it: looks like a good deal to me. And secondly I thought about trying a blade with kind of Persian style blade. It did not work out in my opinion. I should have spent more time sketching ... Close but no cigar!

You did a very nice job.
I agree condors make good project blades and the nice leather is a plus.
If you make more post them up.

So here is the next one.

Not exactly my style. Some people said that they used that knife in a kitchen? That's what I heard when I was buying it.... It is wide, quite massive overall and not exactly beautiful. Will be a lot of work!

So start with some drafts for how it may look like after I cut all the excess. First the blade:

Then the handle. By the way, the original handle is so wide that it looks like there is enough material to make a full tang handle rather than a hidden tang as I originally planned!

A bit tight, but possible. Will use the second profile, like it better.

If I did it again I would probably go for a hidden tang after all: would have more freedom about the handle shape and a lighter knife. That's the only regret.
Made the edge slightly convex. The original HT felt a bit on the hard side, like with the previous knife (it is practically full flat grind, have to be more careful with hard use). So this one is better suited for chopping. And it has got a thicker blade and more weight to it too!
