While cleaning out the back closet, I came across "The Box". Now, you all know what "The Box" is. That's the box things go into when we no longer need them, or we don't know where to put something, but we don't want to part with it. Well, lo and behold, I found my old Buck 500 and sheath. Ah, what memories this knife brought back. Purchased new in 1991 for no other reason than that I wanted one. (Is there a better reason?) Used it for many years until I upgraded to my 110. Put it away in "The Box" and soon forgot it was even there. Well, it is now back in the fold. The sheath shows lots of wear (black dye worn from rubbing on pants and being rubbed by jacket, etc.) Blade was clean and sharp, just like the day I put her away. The only thing that I can find wrong with her is a bit of side-play in the blade. Vertical lockup is solid. Does Buck recondition old knives? I wonder if it would be worth sending it away for a bit of refreshing.
