When I got our first kagas katnes I was impressed with just how well they were done. As you can see from the reviews of this little knife others have been equally impressed. I wondered which kami made these because I thought his work was exceptional. Well, last night when I called Gelbu I found out.

All kagas katnes were made and are being made by Sher Bahadur Bishwakarma. "Brave Tiger!" What a name. The surprise was this is Kumar's older brother. Sher had been working in another shop for maybe 15 years but when Kumar told him about the pay and working conditions at BirGorkha Sher quit his old job and signed on with HI. If he does all his work as he does the kagas katnes we have another top quality journeyman kami. Kumar is one of our best and I figure his big brother has to be just as good or better due to his experience. I look foward to meeting both of them in person.

Anyway, now you know the guy who made your kagas katnes.

Thanks, Jon. Everybody seems to agree with us. Sher is pounding like crazy and cannot keep up with the demand. He is a very busy boy.

Gelbu asked if it was okay for Sher to make some handles of wood and I said that would be fine. They were running out of horn and I did not want to stop production for two or three days while Gelbu went on a horn search.

I got the kagas katne meant for my cousin a couple of days ago. I had wanted it mailed to him, but I enjoyed checking it out. Another bonus was that I got to giftwrap it for him.

Thanks for the info on which kami made the kk's.Like I said he deserves praise for such fine work, tell him thanks for me when you meet him. I sharpened it up and it is RAZOR sharp! If they use wood for some do you think they would make a chainpuri style handle? I think that would be really neat.
 
If they use wood I am almost certain the handle will be Chainpuri style. Poor guy is working his head off making 6 inch khukuris! When he signed on I'll bet he never thought that would be the first assignment for the Brave Tiger.

Tell him not to worry, he is already making a name for himself with the quality of those little 6" knives. A lot of knife makers say that it is harder for them to make a good minature knife than it is a normal size. If the wood handle ones come in let me know before they are all bought up.
 
I have a lot of people who ordered a kagas katne who do not own an HI khukuri. What I am seeing is based on the quality of the kagas katne these people are now ordering their first full sized HI khukuri.

Sher may not think he is doing much because he is making miniatures but he is actually generating sales and I will tell him so when I see him.

He is an excellent kami.

I'll say He's Excellent.I knew the blades "looked" good and I had read the posts.I hadn't had time to shapen any and while I was waiting for this thing to log on this morning I used my round EZELap on one.Excellent Hardness!!
And most all the way from end to end.That's nice on a little one like this.I think they will make great little whittilers.

Yvsa, it seems to run in the family and I have to believe that it is the information and skill passed down from one generation to the next. Bura and his son are the two best we have. Kumar and his brother run close to them, especially in innovation. I am not at all surprised that Kumar's older brother is an excellent kami. I am looking forward to seeing what he does on the bigger models.
