Okay, after very carefully evaluating all ONE of the entries, we have finally decided which of those one entries was the actual single winner of the shelter contest. ;)

Eric Stoskopf, stand up and be recognized!

Yeayyyy!!!! (clap clap clap clap) <----that's applause folks

We'll post further commentary on his shelter shortly.

Best,

Brian.

Pretty humorous Brian ! :D (Now remove tongue from cheek before biting.)

Once you recover from your making that decision, I’ll look forward to reading your evaluation of the shelter. :)

My off-the-frayed-cuff evaluation, one of the most arduous aspects of Eric’s shelter construction was lugging the camera in to take some photographs.... depending on how far he walked.

Congratulations Eric! :)

Glad to hear it! Too bad there weren't more entries, but Eric's a good guy. I know he'll put that bad boy to work too!

Will, Ethan, Ron, and Brian! I sure appreciate the opportunity to participate! I'm looking forward to using the Patrol Machete on my next trip! I have a feeling it will make one dandy little neck knife!

Sorry there wasn't that much excitement. It sure wasn't no Kentucky Derby was it! Maybe next time. :)

Again, thank you for the opportunity. I know I will enjoy using this special knife.

Eric

Brian, would you drop me your email address when you get the chance? Thanks.

Congrats Eric! I'm staring at a pic of your new knife now.

Brian: Next time have a contest I can enter! I live on the freakin' praries :)

Hey Cray!

Guess what? THere are a few great shleters you can make on the prairies. Think making grass and duff blocks stacked up around a hole, with a gable end roof made of same, and using some small sticks for support...

;)

All the Best,

Brian.

PS We'll think of something esle soon enough that everyone can participate in!

Hey Hit Head...

You Cheat'N Bastid!!! :)

I hope you didn't win with your Claustrophobia shelter!!LOL

Congrats Eric.. :)

ttyle

Eric...

Funny, I can't ever remember winning anything in a contest!

Those who know me, say I have a "thing" for trees.

On our recent Mini Tractor trip, as an excersize, Bill and I went walking through the woods, pointing out any sites that would be good for expedient shelters. Most involved trees in some way.

I noticed that every so often there would be a dead sapling, still in tact, but bent/arched over until the tip touched the ground. If a person were to trim/break of all the limbs, the tree would form a perfect ridge pole for a tarp. Just throw some weight around the edges and you're set.

I like to set "guidelines" for myself when practicing skills. I find it challenging to not have to use a knife, cord, or other pieces of my gear even though I have it with me. I think to myself, "what if I'm somewhere and don't have ?"

BTW, if anyone doesn't have Ron's shelter video, get it! It may just save your life someday.

Eric

Good work Eric!

Thanks for the plug!

BTW... nice job on the shelter. I hope you enjoy the crap I slept in during the making of the "Solo" video :)

I had so little energy that just finding a nest was good enough. One night I just covered up with my blanket, tarp and a few branches and felt like a king!

COngratulations!

Ron

Thanks Ron.

>>I hope you enjoy the crap I slept in during the making of the "Solo" video

You know I will! The more crap the better!

Alot of people (myself included) are looking forward to your "Solo" video!

>>Thanks for the plug!

Don't mention it. It's always a pleasure to recommend ANY Hoods Woods videos. If a person is SERIOUS about survival, they will want to own them all. I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned from them.

Eric

I made one. I just didn't get the pictures scanned in time. The scanner won't work. Oh well. I should have made sure it worked before the 13th :D
