Guessing game, HINT #1:

After forging the steel for this section of the knife, the picture shows
one of the first stages in the making of one part in Tim Hancock's
Dog Bone dagger.

Can anyone guess where this is going?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

is it going to Australia?

Sorry, but this knife, documented in the making and created by Tim Hancock
for his book, will end up in Israel.... It is the first of 5 similar pieces all numbered
1 to 5 and all carrying the name of the book etched into the handle frame.....

All the best,

Here is the finished FINIAL.
It is an extreme close up shot......

At this stage the dagger is not yet finished, but Tim put things together
to show me what it looks like and allow me to take this picture.....

All my life I have looked at the world through the macro lens of my cameras.
Photographing the complicated process of Tim's making a Dog Bone dagger
gave me many chances to shoot some amazing details in macro.
Many of these will be displayed on full page illustrations. The shot seen
here is one of them.......:)

AND, by-the-way, I used ONLY AVAILABLE LIGHT in Tim's workshop
to create a 56 page section on making a Dog Bone dagger for his book.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Wow, five Dogbone Bowies.
These books represent a substantial commitment of time and effort from these makers.

Well, Kevin, such a book is considered by the knifemaker as a special
event in his knifemaking career, well worth celebrating with a small
series of commemorative knives.

My idea was for the maker to make a series of 5 numbered pieces, each
carrying the name of the book etched into the steel.

Edmund Davidson did the same with the knife he made for the book.
In Edmund's case, the knives were made using the same handle
material and they differ only in their serial number AND the engraving
design....

After just speaking with Tim, he told me that he decided to make 7 Dog Bone Daggers
with similar handle material (Walrus), numbered 1 to 7 of 7 and each carrying the name
of the book etched on the frame.

AND, they have all been sold in advance....... :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
