Greetings, new guy here :)

This is my first time working on a hatchet/axe. I am trying to replace the handle on this small SAW hatchet. This was the smallest handle I could find. It looks out of proportion. Should I reshape it/remove material before finishing? I haven't driven the wedge in yet. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Welcome to the axe forum, Eli.

I think the handle length matches your hatchet well. What I would do next is seat the head a little lower down onto the shoulder. Then I'd thin the shoulder a little to match the size wood coming through the eye.

Look at the 6th and 7th photos on this thread.
