Gang I'm kinda reluctant to make this post as I don't have a clue as to how far these treatments are going to take me or how much pain they can actually remove but so far the results are spectacular beyond belief!!!!

One of our ndn family adopted daughters, Kay, is a registered nurse and works as a "Flight Nurse" on one of our local hospital's, “LifeFlight” helicopter and has for several years and is therefore qualified to do what I'm going to tell y'all about so y'all don't need to worry about what we're doing. :p
Kay is also very much a horse person that is very interested in "Dressage" and is quite an accomplished rider as well as a "Dressage Trainer," both horses and people.

With that said Kay has been looking into the different forms of Laser Treatments for the last couple of years and if they really work on horses to help heal different sorts of injuries and it really appears they are indeed quite the new medical tool!!!!
And the more research Kay did on the laser treatments for horses the more she began to wonder about their human applications, thinking about me. :D
Well to make a long story a bit shorter Kay decided too see for herself what these laser treatments were capable of doing.
After *Not* a bit of trouble with US Customs, numbers on unit and invoice didn't match, UPS, and the like, Kay finally got her unit delivered too her.

Kay finally made it over to our place on Tuesday the 16th and started my treatments. Then she did another one the 17th then we skipped a day and Kay did treatments on both the 19th and 20th and then skipped the 21st.
We resumed treatments on the 22nd, - 24th, and then again last night, the 26th.

Gang, all I can say is this thing is just short of miraculous!!!!

There was a definite improvement after the 2nd treatment and then again after the 3rd one!!!!
I think it was on the 21st I was able to start dropping my evening 5 mg dose of methadone for three days running but had too take all of my prescribed meds on Christmas day because I had been a lot more active but I was able to drop it again today and hopefully from here on in until I can wean myself off of them totally, at least that's my goal and one that may indeed be obtainable now!!!!

But don't get me wrong as I know I have a long ways to go and being realistic I know a full recovery is impossible to obtain.
But as I said at the beginning of this post, "
I'm kinda reluctant to make this post ~~ but so far the results are spectacular!" and they are!!!!
I'm not saying the pain is totally gone but it is greatly lessened and somehow the pain is changing.
I have recovered feeling in areas where I haven't had any feeling for years now.
I don't know, it's kinda like I tell Kay, "Kay, it's just damned hard to describe all the changes going on in my low back, buttocks, legs, and feet! All I know is that the changes feel good, the pain is different and tolerable with less medication!"
All I know is that whatever is going on I damned sure like it and so far it's keeping me out of a surgery I'm not sure I could recover from!!!!
And talk about something that came about just in time
, there were a couple of days in between I was ready to go to the ER and have the damned surgery whether I could recover from it or not the pain was so horribly bad!!!! :(

YuhnSuh?

You just gave me a Christmas present.

Thank you. It's one I've been hoping for. :)

Well that's some great news!
I'm glad you are able to reduce some of your pain meds.

I'm sure it's still early in your treatment schedual and you're unsure of just how much it can help. Are you seeing this treatment as a step to getting to the surgery or as a bypass for the surgery? Have you talked to your docs about this yet?

This is fascinating and wonderful but I'm full of questions and of course you can tell me to stfu with no hard feelings.:D

Continued hopes and good thoughts from the west coast!

Wow Yvsa!!!, just Wow!
That sure is some great news!!!
I don't know your level of pain by experience, but the pains i do have due to my right shoulders rotator cuff tendonitis and an undiagnosed problem/malformation in my own lower back give me somewhat of an idea however small.

I am very glad for you my friend, and hope ,wish and pray that these treatments give you as much relief as possible so that you can live, instead of endure. Us newbs around here need your wisdom wit and insight more than you know and appreciate every post , no matter the subject.
I hope you won't mind if i bring these laser treatments to the attention of my own physician and physical therapist, Thank you for the links....this now gives me hope that i will not ever need surgery on my shoulder.

I'm glad you're feeling better Yvsa. I hope the treatments continue to help. I'll keep sending positive thoughts your way. Shappa, your wolf is still eerie and ominous-looking.

Shappa I am indeed looking at this as a way to bypass the surgery. However if something should happen that forces me to have the surgery I feel a tiny bit better about recovering from it now. ;)

And talking this procedure over with all of my docs was the first thing I did before starting it. My pain management doc and neurosurgeon both said, "There has been some great advances made in the field of Photomedicine!"
My primary care doc however kinda rolled his eye's and said, "Well, I don't see what it would/could hurt." but that's just the way he is.;)

Also even though the, "the changes feel good, the pain is different and tolerable with less medication." sometimes having the new and different pains pop up in areas where there hasn't usually been any pain before or at least not since the problems first started years ago they can be quite scary simply because these are brand new experiences and if you're like me you can't help wondering if you're doing the right thing.

And don't worry about asking questions, I had a ton of them before I consented to do this treatment.
However a good friend gave me some great food for thought.... He told me that I/we, meaning all of us here, and many others had been praying for something that could/would help me with the pain and since that "something" showed up why not take advantage of it? I couldn't argue against that so here we are! :D

Have you investigated a TENS unit?
Transcutaneus Electrical Nerve Stimulation.

That would have me a little bit leary too...but I would look at it as a whole body evaluation..."overall I'm doing better, the pains are different but tolerable." But I'd keep a close eye on the different.

Happy New Year.

That is really interesting!!! I'm glad you are getting some relief. I'd be interested in seeing how it works long term for sure!! Keep us posted.

Yvsa- that is awesome, man! I am excited and guardedly optimistic for you!

Please keep on keeping us posted. :)

Glad to hear there's a prospect of this making things better!

Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational treatment station!

Awesome Yvsa. the pain popping up maybe because of the increased activity using muscles you haven't used for awhile or may have been masked by the level of pain med you have been on. Good on you for looking for alternative treatment. I hope the progress continues. Prayers from Texas.

Wonderful news! I am glad you have found a source of relief. May Thor continue to wield his mighty hammer on your pain.

Eric

I'm just happy to hear you feel better. The method matters far less than the results.

If it matters, laser physics is one of my specialties. Colleagues have been investigating the use of lasers in the medical field since I was just a short-tailed lab-rat (70s). The application to surgery is obvious ... what you're describing is considerably more subtle. I'm sure I don't understand what's happening to offer relief. That doesn't matter, given the positive results.

Here's hoping things keep moving in a positive direction.

i agree with oldphysics, the 'how' is less important than the reduction of your suffering. i hope thor continues to improve you. i will however tuck the tidbit of the 'how' away in my one remaining brain cell for future use justincase it is ever needed.

Yvsa,
That's great to hear, buddy:thumbup: So glad that it's giving you a bit of relief. Hang in.

Jon

Excellent news! I hope it continues to give you the relief you're looking for. This is the time of year for miracles :D.

Alan

This Sounds Very Good Yvsa... I am doing some research on this low level idea... I'll relate what I find out as well...
Ed
