Gum Tragacant

I use it at the very end particularly after oiling. If you use it before you oil the sheath it will act as a resist.

Stuart is spot on, after dyeing, I use it along the edges of the sheath
will dye the edge, burnish it, apply some gum, wait, burnish some more
then sand it with 600 grit and then apply more gum, wait, yeah, you guessed
more gum and then burnish and then sand with 2000 grit and yep, just
a little more gum and burnish but by then it's pretty set and smooth;

and yep, as Stuart said, if you get some gum on the leather before you dye it,
that area will resist the dye's penetration into the leather, not a good thing!
