I think its a double standard that people are not allowed to post guns in the Traditional knife forum, yet there are Gun ads in the forum.

I suggest knife ads would be more appropriate.

The ads are based on your search history and or cookies stored.

Ads seize to be with a paid membership. Just one of the perks.

Frankly, I think it's poor form to make an issue of, and complain about how the owner of the site pays the bills when one is not helping to defray the associated costs of running the forums via a paid membership. Further, doing so within the discussion forum, when one knows better from past experience, is unjustified.

Well stated Elliott. Incorrect discussion location aside, I also don't see this is a big deal or a reason to get bothered by. A high percentage of members here past and present are avid hunters, sportsmen, military, law enforcement, etc.; seems like a little ignorance led to confusion. For those that do not like, own, or use firearms; don't buy any. ;)

I am hoping this is the right place to express my opinions.

Of course with a paid membership, I don't see the ads.
However I agree with keeping the subject of guns out of the traditional knife forums, the same as I agree with keeping mall-fantasy-weaponry out of traditionals.

I don't go into anyone's church and preach polygamy or the systematic proliferation of child pornography. The fact that I may be armed to the teeth has nothing to do with the subjects in the traditional forum.

It doesn't take more than a couple of brain cells to rub together to figure these things out. I promote purchased memberships, and intend to continue doing so as I bring the Annual Forum knife to fruition.

But it certainly feels rude, crude and socially unacceptable to advertise guns in the traditional knife forum. It confuses the issues that the tough flowers in Traditionals prefer to discuss.

Better analogy would be seeing ads for pornography in the church bulletin.

No problem with the powers to be to not allowing guns in the traditional forum. But to then see many ads for guns/shooting accessories in that forum...

To Reiterate.....
BFC does not control what is shown in the ads at all. They come from an outside service. In many cases the ads are directly related to the individual user browsing history.

Those that choose to be offended by such things, I suppose will be offended. They are not, however, without choices.
1) Choose to ignore the ads.
2) Choose to not be offended.
3) Install adblock+ plug in for your browser.
4) Purchase a paid membership.
5) Log out.

Sounds like there are reasonable solutions.

I do not understand why one cannot post a picture of a gun with a traditional knife in the traditional knife sub forum.
Not discussing guns I can understand, but to outright ban a simple picture doesn't seem right.
I mean hell, other subject matters are allowed (hats, modern folders & dead animals) so why not guns?
They are as traditional as any old knife & protected by the constitution after all.
It just smacks of hypocrisy & an anti gun agenda IMO.

Just my 2 cent opinion.......

I stand to be corrected if wrong, but I think it's OK to post a picture of a traditional knife with a gun in the Traditional subforum... as long as the discussion is about the knife and not the gun.

As for "anti-gun agenda" note that guns are both discussed and offered for sale/trade on BF, just in different subforums

Since I ended up in the middle of this I'll add the following.

I do know that there are many free apps that I use, on my smartphone and tablets, that pepper me with ads. If I want the adds gone I need to pay for the app. I've paid for a bunch of apps that I use a lot. It gives me a better experience and helps the developers maintain and update their product. Kevin is doing something similar to help defray some of the cost of maintaining BF. I doubt he chooses what ads go where. There are members of BF who are gun enthusiasts, so it makes sense for the ad company to advertise guns. That doesn't mean we have to allow a thread about guns in a forum that is dedicated to the discussion of Traditional knives.

The decision to not have a knife/gun THREAD was made long ago in the Traditional forum. Even a picture only thread. If you look back at the picture only threads, you will notice that invariably folks forget that it's picture only. The next thing you know there's a gun discussion thread in the traditional knife forum. There is already a forum to show and discuss guns on BF. That's where they belong.

You will find the occasional gun/knife post in the "What traditional knife are you carrying today?" thread. As long as the discussion does not turn to guns these are left alone.

My apologies for the hypocrisy remark Gary,I thought no gun pics were allowed in the traditional forum..period & I'm glad to know the occasional pic is actually allowed. Thanks for clarifying that.
I must admit I was peeved a while back when the thread asking for traditional knife & gun pics was moved to general, but I begrudgingly understand not wanting the discussions to turn to the guns.(not that there is anything wrong with that IMO)

It amazes me that there are so many people on the internet who haven't figured this out.

I felt guilty for being one of the ones that said guns did not belong in Traditionals, when I saw the gun ads. I figured, if were gonna ban the thread, we should be consistent and not have gun ads.

there are features in my computing life that adblocker interfere with. I dont care if the gun ads are there, I felt bad for objecting to a Guns and Knives thread. After all, we had a Hats with Knives thread. Why not bring back the Guns and Knives thread? Ive seen some great Guns with Knives pics. It is nice to have full screen text without the ad though... But at some point I will turn adblocker off again.. and will be hoping to see some cool knife ads!;-)

I suggest that BF run ads for knives, not guns, and not hats. I think its fine for a picture of a knife to incidentally have a gun or a hat in it. I don't think it is true that the ads are targeted to my browsing, if it was, they would be Babes with Knives.. Hey, now theres a thread idea!!!. I think what is happening is the ad marketer has classified BF as a weapons site, and the electronic robots did the rest. Traditionals are not a weapons category, imho, maybe "tools" or "hardware" would be something to offer the marketer as an alternative category.

Please Focus on the Message, don't attack the messenger.

I don't see the ads anymore. I turned on adblocker, which is probably what alnamvet has enabled, so when he said he saw no ad for a gun, and I posted that on my screen there was a gun ad, both were true.

Why are we wasting time arguing about guns?:-)

Heres a Knife I like.

What you don't seem to understand is that the ads you are served up come from your browsing habits, no one selects what ads you specifically get to see except for you (based on where you've been). Guns and knives typically go together like bacon and eggs, basaeball and hot dogs, and peanut butter and jelly. It's not a big deal really. Like the forums? Support them with a basic membership, crisis over. Right?

I'm a paying member and I'm still seeing ads. I know this isn't specifically about gun ads, but it does mean I see ads I don't want to see even though I pay.

I think a screen shot of your ads would be helpful. You shouldn't be seeing any ads at all while you are logged in. If you browse the forums while not logged in, guess what? Yes, ads.
