I was wondering, for all you guys that spend time in the back country, what gun and knife combination do you bring along?

Hey bigcountry,

It ain't much in the way of back country, but my choice for my most recent romp in the woods with the dogs was a Taurus PT92 and a Western W49 bowie. Later in the year, when the snakes and other varmints are crawling, I will probably carry my Ithaca 37 pump shotgun with birdshot for snakes and slugs close by for other varmints.

I figure you're talking about handguns -- but I'm a hunter.

If it's deer hunting, I take a Browning .300 Winmag with a graphite bull barrel, topped with a Zeiss scope. I'll either have the Simonich Raven, or CS Trailmaster along my side on that one. If I'm duck hunting, I take a Winchester Super X-2, and the Columbia River M-18, and Spyderco Catcherman (good for breasting ducks.)

It's all subject to change -- it all depends on what I feel like carrying that day. :D

For deer season: Gun is a Remington model 600 Mohawk in 308. Knife is either a Buck 110 or Kershaw fixed blade (forgot the model).

For grouse, duck and rabbit season: Gun is a Remington 870 and Ruger MkII 22/45. Knife is whatever pocket knife I'm carrying that day.

And lastly when I'm hiking/trekking I usually carry my Glock 19 or 26. And for a knife I have whatever pocket knife I'm carrying that day and a Himalayan Imports 15" Sirupati.

Let's see here...

I'm I'm just going for a day at the range, I'll take my favorite handgun, a S&W 3913, and my EDC knife, a Benchmade 910 Stryker (old ATS-34 blade).

If I'm hunting, I'll be using one of three long guns (a Marlin 25N in .22 lr, a Type 52 Mosin Nagant, or a S&W model 916 12 gauge), and I'll normally carry my Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .357 in a drop holster. For hunting trips, I normally carry a Buck 119 and a Wenger SAK (the Teton Serrated model).
