Gun Holsters

I just picked up a Ruger Sp101. I'm looking for a holster. I don't plan on doing a lot of concealed carry, its more of a truck gun, but it is a gun that can be carried concealed.

What should I get for a holster?

A couple of issues. First of all, I'm fat, so I don't know if there are certain types of holsters that are worse for me. Second, I quite often have to go into places that you can't bring a firearm into. I don't want something that I have to take off my belt or strip down in the parking lot to take it off :p

I have seen some IWB with clips and others with snaps to attach to the belt. I kind of like those. I'd appreciate any advice, whether specific holsters or general. Also, since I won't be carrying it very often, I'd like to spend about $50 bucks, instead of $150.

I'd suggest a kydex paddle holster......google Fobus (an Israeli company that's noted for their quality and reasonable prices)
Email me if you want......there's a bunch of factors involved.

A paddle holster sounds just right for you. They are very secure, and you dont need to take your belt off to put them on / take them off. They usualy run about $20-$30 depending on what model, and are quite concealable.

The site has a Sig pictured, but i have seen the real deal in the store. I use this kind of holster for my S&W J-frame.

i have one for my CZ-75 also, but prefer my Galco belt holster for that one. :D

Desantis pocket holster. Lightweight, it fits comfortably in the front pocket of Dockers slacks. I have a S&W 340PD and I can't even tell it's there. It is a good holster for under the seat of your truck as well.

You'll like the price as well...

Paddle holster all the way.

I'll go look at another alternative, give me a few minutes.

I also have an old desantis gunhide that I've been using with my mod 37 for a long time; it's a cheapish iwb with a metal clip, and a thumb break over the hammer. I don't think that they still make it, but it's about perfect for what you need.

ok, desantis deosn't . but galco makes one like it.

Galco & Desantis make some fine holsters. I had a Fobus for a Glock and I guess they are OK but I gave it away, just don't care for the artifical stuff.
My SP101 lives in a Galco holster and my KP345 lives in a Desantis holster.

I'll give a BIG vote for Galco. I have one for both my Sig and my Glock. The Sig is a paddle holster and my Glock is a "strap on."

Their leather is beautiful and the craftsmanship topnotch....period! They fit my guns like a snug pair of driving gloves.

Since I don't carry my Sig that often, my Galco/Glock combo gets most of the action. I love the perfect way it fits just off the back side of the hip, but not too far into the small of my back.

The Galcos are a little over your budget, but well, well worth it.

I also do use an Uncle Mikes more often for my Glock, just for the reason of it getting in/out of my pants faster/better. The clip goes between the belt and pants and has a "catch" on the bottom of it to assure the clip does not come up off the belt.

i too use a galco usually, a paddle style is certainly very convenient to put on/take off, if ya are gonna carry it in the holster in a glove box vs wearing it i would get leather vs kydex as they draw a lot easier out of the leather especially if ya arent wearing it.

Question about the paddle holsters.

I assume the holster part sits outside of your pants while the paddle slides inside and holds it in place?

Seems like if this is the case it wouldnt conceal well.

I usually am in shorts or jeans and a t shirt or polo shirt. I do not normally tuck shirts in so they do hang down some but usually not too far below the button on my pants.

I have been carrying a little 5 shot taurus ti revolver and just drop it in my pocket. I would like a way that I can conceal it that frees up that pocket as it seems I am carrying more and more these days.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks!

ya will have to wear a jacket to conceal a paddle imho, or a heavy shirt maybe, for concealment a IWB works best, i use a galco, and a small/slim pistol helps a lot also, i like the poly kahr 9MM's myself, or glock 26/27/33 are good too, but ya will still have to wear your shirt tail out/wear a coat/etc to cover the thing up, sometimes i just carry my kahr PM9 in my pocket sans holster works pretty good but isnt the fastest draw really, ya just have to pick the right clothes, also a good belt designed to support a holster is a must if ya are gonna wear the thing all the time, a std belt wont cut it.

from the way ya say ya dress IWB would be the way to go, maybe an ankle holster? they are really a slow draw though, i dont like them myself.

a paddle is best if ya are gonna be putting on/taking off a lot and ya are wearing a coat or heavy shirt with the tail out,
