Our usually pretty nice Pasadena Convention Center show (Texas) was yesterday and today. I went earlier. There weren't any serious knife sellers. Those that did have knives had one of three different things.

1:) China built clone crap

2:) Fixed Blades

3:) Auto Folders, or decent non auto folders almost exclusevly with serrated edges (BARF!).

Gunwise it was okay I guess, but I went looking for a BM551, 556 or 705 and only found serrated edges.

Happy Fathers Day eh?

Joe, gun show crowds are notorious for spending large amounts on guns and pennies on knives. I don't go to gun shows much anymore.

The last time I went to the Pasadena Gun Show, I got to meet both Warren Thomas and T.L. Hearn. Warren Thomas didn't have a table set up, but my buddy went up to a dealers table to ask about a W.T. knife he had on display. The guy behind the table told us that the dealer went to get something to eat, "But I'm Warren Thomas." We saw the T-Rex hanging out of his pocket and he let us check that out. Terry Hearn had a table set up with some very nice folders and fixed blades. Not bad for a gun show.

That's the truth! I never got that.
I also never got the guys who buy priceless custom rifles then mount a cheap scope on it and shoot surplus steel cased ammo. :barf:

"What? You spent $50 on that knife? You're crazy! Now where are the pre-ban AR's?"

I guess gun shows in my area must be different...
Sure, there is the cheap stuff, and one or two folks that set up with nothing but that, but the two biggest knife sellers, who seem to be there everyshow, carry and sell Spyderco's, Benchmade's, Emersons, and Microtech's to name a few.
I've also seen Striders for sale (and being bought), as well as one guy I;ve seen at a couple of these shows, who has blades from makers such as Dozier, Elishwitz, Joe Cordova[He also sets up his own table at these gun shows], Crawford, Terzoula, Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works, D'Holder, Dennehy (sp?), and many others... and they do sell.

And Bob Jones sets up at these shows sometimes as well, I've chatted with him a couple time.

There's always the idiot waving around his $5 paki POS, and saying its just as good as the Bob Dozier... :barf: :grumpy: But such dipsh*ts are rare... generally good knives seem to go well at the gun shows around here... Or maybe its just my imagination?

Joe, is it legal to sell and carry automatic folders in Texas???

Thanks. L.W.

AFAIK, only to LEOs and military, but I tend to carry a Mora Frosts Swedish Army knife (4in. fixed blade) or a Fallkniven S1 (5.25 in. fixed) which are both under the Texas legal limit of 5.5 inches. Most of the time it's the Mora SwAK on my belt for utility.

in tx ya can have auto's for collector purposes but ya cant carry unless LEO/military. gotta leave them at home.

the gun show in austin this wkend had 3-4 fairly large knife dealers, had lotsa BM, spyderco,CRKT,surefire lights, boker, buck/strider, even some pro-tech autos, GT autos, BM autos (stryker, and several others)really more stuff than i have seen in a while at a gun show, usually just one guy or maybe 2. prices too were gen'ly comparable to internet prices also, a little higher, but not much!

the only brand i really didnt see was emerson.

had a great time in austin though, i guess all the guys from your show were here, lol

I guess my biggest problem is thay all stock serrated edges.

AFAIK as well, I can't just buy an auto knife (and if I could I could not carry it in any case). Some of them are VERY sweet looking....

One guy had a really decent spread of BM, including one each green and purple 556 (also a black one) but all three were Partial blades.

There was one of the gentlemanly 940? slim Axis w/ plain blade, but it was a few more bucks than I was looking to spend. (and had a Black blade - BARF!).

Oh well, gives me some internet homework to do!

IIRC, the green and purple model only come in a partial edge.

I also made that show and I agree , not very many good knife dealers. That is the " Real Gun Show". There is anohter show in 2 weeks which I believe will be a " Hi- Caliber Gun Show" . The Hi caliber shows I have been to see to have better dealers. Also there will be a show at "George R" this coming weekend.

Hi Bob! (always wanted to say that!)

As I live not more than 5 miles from Pasadena CC, I generally make any show there.

GR Brown is my second favorite, though parking for it can be challenging.

Conroe is third.

Astro Complex is a WAY distant last place! (last time there $6 to park $6 to get in!)

Fire me an email at playboejoe2002 - at - yahoo.com if you have any interest in meeting or chatting!

I did one gun show as a knife dealer. I had many customs for sale as well as a variety of decent production knives (Spyderco, Benchmade, etc.).

I think I sold one knife (A Kershaw that was on closeout). I had some looks and plenty of comments like, "$100 for a knife! I got this one at that table for $5". The dealers that had chinese knockoffs and other assorted junk were selling knives like crazy. Needless to say I have not bought another table at a gunshow.
