I'm thinking about trying Gun Kote on a couple of blades and I need to know what a decent airbrush runs and what to look for when buying one. Thanks.

Tom...got your email but wasnt able to answer at the time.....

I use a Paasche (sp) airbrush but it is overkill in price for what you need. I think you can buy a cheap one at Harbor Freight and it will do fine for Gunkote.

A cheap single action airbrush will work fine for GunKote - just set it up and leave it on that setting. I usually use an Aztek double action - partly because that's what I have and partly because it is a lot easier to clean than my Paasche!

Whatever else, make sure your air source is dry...

Thanks for the replies. I thought I could probably get by with a less expensive one if I was only going to use it for Gun Kote, but I wasn't sure. I'll order one today.

Tom, do you know you can buy aerosol cans with jars attached to them to spray what ever you want, ie gunkote, at most any good auto parts or auto paint store?

Mike, where were you when I was asking this question?! :D I ended up spending too much money for an airbrush, but the guy at the art store got all excited when I told him what I was going to use it for and I ended up with a convert. ;) Not a paying convert, but someone who now appreciates that knives can be an artistic expression too. He'd never thought about it.

Tom, I had trouble getting the feed down where it wouldn't run, took some practice. Fortunately it's easy to clean Gun Kote off before it's cooked. :D

Tom I got mine at HF but I did get the best one they had..
I like it, I did a little test run with it and the first job turned out pretty good. it was my re-con XL . did you see that one ?

No Dan, I don't think I saw that one. Can you post a picture? Thanks for all the replies.

Oh yeah -- what a knife! I don't usually get jealous of other maker's work but this time I wish I'd made that great knife.

(:D :D (Just kidding about the Mad smiley.))

That's really fine work Dan, possibly the best of the best going to our team in Afghanistan. You made excellent use of the Gun Kote camo.

:o dave stop it.. you're embasing me :o

thanks guys..
I think the prep work is key on the gun coat, so heed that and you'll be oK.. :)
