i know if you are a convicted fellon you are banned from ever getting a gun permit. But i also see now if you were ever charged with domestic violance you are also banned. What is domestic violence charges. I ask cause my friend was charged with harassment when he was 18 ..the girl was 18 also but they werent dating. Now he wants a permit 23 years later. the whole domestic thing is confusing and its also retroactive . can anyone explain this domestic violence thing...thanks

Also, if you're a convicted felon or been convicted of domestic abuse you cannot even own a gun legally.
What your friend should do is go to the local sherriff or police station and ask them about his situation. They can even run a background check for him for a small fee and tell him if he qualifies or not.
