I would really like to get a gun at some point as I like target shooting. Currently I am living with my parents, and my mom would kill me if I got one so this is not an immediate thing. Rather I am just doing some basic research, and maybe starting the license process so when I move out I am good to go.
Anyway I think the best would probably be a full CCW. From what I have been reading it seems like it is difficult if not impossible to get one in NYC, well I am currently living in Queens. Is this true? Would I be better off just getting a type that allows me to own and travel with the gun to go to a range? I am not really very interested in carrying CCw anyway, I just figured that if it was possible to get the permit, and not that much of a cost difference I would like the option.
As I understand it I need to go down to 1PP to start the process. Would I need to go there and get the application, fill it out, get all of the required extras, and then return it there? Or is there some way that I could do it in a more local office?
Lastly, would it be advisable to get this before I move out? I am just thinking that as it seems like it can take up to six months, I might as well get the ball rolling. My only concern would be what happens when I do move out? How difficult/much of a hastle is it to get my address information changed?
Thanks in advance for any experiences from those who have already done this.
