Just saw a simple leather holster with a metal clip, and on the clip there was a drawing of a Cobra and the words "Gun Skin USA". It was $6.99 in a thrift store.

Anybody heard of this brand?

Stopping by tomorrow morning to actually try it.

no harm in spending $7 right?
to follow up that comment, quality holsters start around $60. granted you're at a thrift store

Well, it didn't fit. :(:( Too small for the SP101. Might work for a J-frame though, so if anyone is in the area and interested, it's the Goodwill store in north Reno.

On a side note, I hope that this didn't get construed as brandishing. Took all reasonable efforts on my part: asked the two clerks last night for permission to stop by this AM for a fit with an unloaded firearm. They said ok. This morning I was there roughly 25 min after the store opened, minimum store traffic in mind. Then, when the clerk saw me (one of the two last night) I told her what I was there for (she remembered) and placed the box in a bag on the counter and asked if it was ok, and if she would be more comfortable with the manager present. Then, she gestured me to her counter, I waited there for several seconds, then she told me it was ok to proceed. In order to achieve the least dramatic presentation of the firearm, I brought it wrapped in a blue t-shirt, then placed in a Coach purse box and then in a white grocery shopping bag. Took it out, showed her the empty cylinder, with the barrel never facing her. Worked fast, but not rushed. Made sure the camera got a good look of what I was doing at all times. Tried the holster, didn't fit, put the gun back, said thank you and left. As far as I could tell, only one customer saw me, and she didn't seem panicked or say anything.

Proper protocol?

P.S. haven't heard anything on http://www.renoscanner.com/

You probably freaked the clerk out more than you needed to by making such a big deal out of it. Personally, I would have just gone in a corner when nobody was looking, and discretely checked to see if the gun fit. But that's just me.

What if there was an off-duty officer in the store and you are in the corner getting your gun out and trying to conceal your actions?

But, in retrospect you have a point: they do have fitting rooms, and I could have used one of those or at least asked.

P.S. she didn't seem freaked out, as she verbally agreed it didn't fit and referred to me as "sweetie" as I was leaving.
