Can anyone explain how Darrell Ralph's system works? I wasn't able to find a good description on his site. Does it seem pretty robust? I guess I worry a bit about how these type systems will hold up. I am looking at a used one that fits the bill except for the assisted feature. I think it is a good price but just not sure about the assisted deal. Thanks fior your help.

I would say it works pretty like the Dominator, but you should email Darrel, I'm sure he'll explain it to you.

If it works like the Dominator and the Aftermath (the Camillus versions) then it should be a very robust system as both of these have a thick spring arm to do the flipping.

I'm not sure how it works but it does work well, I've got 3 of them. All assisted. And besides that they are super tuff knives on par with any Strider or other workhorse knives I've dealt with. They're just prettier.:p I usually carry the brown one if my pockets are deep enough. (They are pretty BIG.)

Even if you have an issue with it DDR will always take care of you. He wouldnt install them id he had to keep fixing them. I would buy with confidence.

Oilman,
That black one (on art of war book) is one of the nastiest and purtiest knives I have ever seen. Off hand, do you know how long is the wait for a comparable blade. Wow....I just looked at it again. Reminds me of the Raven black 2005 yamaha R1 (sorry)

I have played with one at my local dealer and it is smooth, refined, quick and seemingly robust. I liked it. Within the first few moments of being your hand you realize that it reeks of quality and craftsmanship.

The robo-assist that Darrel uses was originally licensed through Camillus and Bob Taylor the inventor of the sping system used for the AO.

Basically the spring is mounted in the side of the handle, the tip of the spring engages a stud or more precisely a cam. The cam actually controls the break point of where the spring takes over to open the blade. A very simple and robust design.
