Does anyone have any experience with apllying gunkote to titanuim? I am hoping to acquire a bradley mayhem at the next gunshow and I wanted to coat the handles with a protective finish.

Hmm well anyone have any other coatings you use?? Just looking for some input here becuase I figured I would get a quicker response here then sending gunkote an email. I already sent them an email and havent been replied to yet, its been a week and a half.

Gunkote is paint. Of course Gunkote will tell you their product is perfect.
You could try some of the Plasti-dip products. Thinned and brushed on it should protect the handle, but it will look like hell.

i would never do that myself and i edc ti handle knives all the time, imho its gonna look "funky" at best, YMMV though.

i mean even if ya do spray some coating on the ti its still gonna scuff up & imho it'll look worse than if the ti scuffed, i dont see the point myself.

YMMV though...........

dont even wanna think what the plasti-coat would look like lol...............

You may want to look at having it anodized, either MIL SPEC Type II, or Type III, search around on the site theres some post about somewhere. I carry ti handle folders exclusively and I think you've already got the perfect most durable handle material you can have. If you really want it to be protected how about giving STR a shout and have him make you some G10 skins to place over your TI handle slabs. However this is going to require lengthing your pins and screws because your handle is going to be thicker, and that is going to be expensive.

My recommendation recognize 6AL4v Ti for what it is, the most durable and toughest handle material around.

good luck and keep us posted as to what you do.

Mike, the pins shouldn't have to be lengthened, should they? One could attach thin scales over the existing pins, essentially hiding them. Of course, I'd think you should use screws, etc to attach the covering scales, so you'd have access to the pins if need be. But then, covering up all that nice titanium seems like a waste to me.

i dont like the idea of adding scales imho one of the main things i like about ti handles is that they are thin, adding G10 is gonna thicken them, if ya want G10 i say get a knife with G10 lol, YMMV though but again something i'd never do............unless i wanted thicker handles, anyway.

anodising? looks good on some but again it still scuffs and i dont know which looks better/worse, scuffed ti or scuffed ano lol??

i really like ti handles and have edc'd several (ie crawford kasper & perfigo & ti spyderco ATR) and scuffs is just something ya have to learn to live with, honestly the spyderco Ti ATR and the ti side of the EKI CQC12 (the '12 thats stonewashed anyway, not true on BB ones) hold up pretty well, both are stonewash, its the bead blast ti that scuffs easy.

but again, just something ya have to live with.
