This is probably a stupid question, but how do you know when you have enough on the wood block to sharpen your knife?

For the first time applying it.

Dab drops, 4 of them on a 6" strop. Smear the drops around, with your finger, until the entire surface is covered in a transparent grey color.

Let it dry. To where the grey surface becomes dull. Powdery looking.

Use the strop. Using it embeds the diamond grit into the surface of the strop. The more you use it, the better it becomes.

Inspect the strop after the first use. Has enough emulsion worn off to warranty more?

Who cares? Apply another smear and let it dry. Feel free to sit the strop out in sunlight. Get it warm. But it has to be dry to work as intended.
