OK so im 20. and getting my FOID card soon. i do some shooting with boyscouts, law enforcment classes, and even some ROTC. So i know a little something. Now i need some good places on to which i could buy some guys. i see lots of online places heck even a few around here but where do u all recomend being the best place to get them. Im talking general so this could help everyone out. Im looking for best places to buy cheapist guns to the best place to get my brand new sniper rifle to handguns of all kinds. I just want to know it all and i want information out there for all of you to. so what have u all got?

You need to find a local brick and mortar store near you! You do know that an online retailer is going to ship to your local brick and mortar FFL. Perhaps someone who lives in IL. will be able to recommend a good gun shop. I would also advise you takeing the NRA safety course as well.

look in the classifieds, at least here in Oregon and in Washington state if I buy a weapon (gun) second hand I don't have to register it, however if I buy from a pawn shop, gun shop or general merchandise store it will be registered to me. I have also come across some really great deals buying second hand, and if you have a friend that is in law enforcement (even a dispatcher) you can run the serial numbers of the gun you intend to buy to make sure it doesn't come up stolen. I picked up an M1 carbine with collapsable stock in 98% condition for $250.00 a few years ago and a Ruger MK1 .22 target pistol for $250.00 and had I bought from a dealer or collector I wouldn't have been able to touch these for less than $500.00 each.:D

" So i know a little something. Now i need some good places on to which i could buy some guys" Ahhhhh this is the wrong forum for that kind of behavior! lol!

You really need to narrow down what you are shopping for. Unless you are talking about true corporate stores, a single retail chain is limited to what they can stock in inventory so, each store tends to specialize in the high volume things that sell well in their local market.

For Class 3 items, some of which your state prevents you from owning, I have found reputable on-line dealers the way to go. Of course you need a local SOT (dealer) to do the actual transfer to you. The one exception I have found is that silencers seem to be pretty well supported by local dealers where I live.

Around where I live, "black" rifles seem to sell poorly so, I use on-line sources and send them to a local dealer. Pawn shops often do local transfers pretty cheap.

For common main stream pump shotguns and bolt action rifles, your major sporting goods chain stores will have the best prices in general and they carry good iventory so you can walk in, fill out the paperwork, and leave with your new rifle or shotgun.

Handguns tend to be a crapshoot unless I want an old cowboy six shooter around here. Glocks, HKs, and other similar high dollar autoloaders are something I will probably either have to drive a ~100 miles to see or I will have to order one from a local dealer. Factory websites are good for finding the right model on-line.

I also look around on the GunBroker website.

Around where I live, newspapers WILL NOT let you advertise firearms so, finding a used one in the paper is impossible. I guess they want you to sell out of your car trunk downtown on a street corner ...:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I live in IL I could give you a few names of a few good shops in IL, and This is just a pet peave of mine why dont people post what town in IL you are in. Its not like people are going to come and stalk you if they Know your town you live in.

Not to sound harsh or flippant, but I'd recommend moving out of Illinois, often called the great state of Chicago.

Find a dealer you like by visiting and chatting, look in Shotgun News, and order away.

I agree with The knifecollector in that you should try and give your business to a local shop if you can. The place I bought my hunting stuff from since I was 13 (I'm 42 now) Zane's Gun Rack was run by a super great guy--Zane Wilson. This guy was a survivor of the Normandy-landing, came home and opened up a shop here on High St. in 1950. He would do anything for you and usually--especially when I was a kid--not charge you much if anything for it. He was killed two years ago by three punks who went on an armed-robbery spree. Even though he was well into his 80's he shot and killed one of the scumbags and wounded another. His death and subsequent store-closure was a big loss to this community. These kind of mom and pop places need our patronage. However, if you really HAVE to go online, I have had great success at gunsamerica.com. They have EVERYTHING you can possibly think of and most of the folks are like they are here on BFC--good, honest guys who's word you can count on. I've purchased several high-end guns from different people there and have always been happy with the deal. Still, do your homework on the seller before you send him your hard-earned $! I would also visit some forum sites. A couple I go to are glocktalk, ARF.com, the high road. You can usually get geographically specific info on a variety of firearms and places. GT and ARF have forums geared for the state I reside in. Couldn`t hurt...

...I have found reputable on-line dealers the way to go.
Can you recommend one or two? If I buy, I'd like to do business with a local dealer, but I'd like to know what are fair prices. Shopping local in this area is rarely a wise financial decision...
