So I have one of these on the way.

Northwoods Knives: 3.5" Gunstock - Tortoise Shell Acrylic - D2 Steel -

I ordered it for Father's day because it was pointy and shiny :D.

Does anyone have feedback on Gunstocks, Northwoods Knives, or pointy shiny things?

That is a very nice picture!! (If I do say so myself)

Northwoods knives are made by Queen to the Schatt and Morgan finish, so they are a bit better in fit and finish than a Queen.

Ol' Dave Shirley would put together some different combos with the blades, but was mostly known for his excellent stag.

I am a huge fan of Northwoods. When Dave retired, I bought out all of his inventory and then bought the name.

Thanks for getting the knife from us. I hope you love it!

That Northwoods sure is a beauty!

I love my Queen Gunstock. It's still one of my favorites.

Now that's a nice looking knife. The Tortoise Shell handles really set it off.

My one and only "gunstock" by Enrique Pena of Laredo, TX. 4 3/8" closed.

Oddly enough although it is a pattern I really like I have very few examples of gunstocks.

Here we have an AG Russell, a MOP Elk Horn w/ scrimshaw, a Colt, and in the back a small custom.

I really need to watch for more....

markksr, I love that stag bone-handled Gunstock! Sure wish I could find one of those!

I also have a couple gunstocks.

This is my Orange G-10 Case

This is a remington with custom stag scales that a great member SUNNYD gave to me. Well my roommate loved it so I passed it on to her.

I like the blade style on that colt.

The only examples I have of this pattern is an RR Old Yellow which is OK and an older Ka-Bar which is also OK but...nice brown jigged bone, reasonable fit but the spring is beyond belief! I like the GEC approach to springs but this K-B goes too far, it's extremely difficult to open and deadly to close! Might be the reason I've neglected this pattern...

The K-B comes with a Clip blade and Pen opening on the other side. The RR has Spear and Pen opening on the same side-which I prefer. The Gunstock is undoubtedly a sturdy pattern, might be a bit heavy for some tastes but it's interesting to compare it with another 'heavy' pattern such as a Copperhead.

I have this same one and it is a classic to me. Love those D2 blades and cattlebone! It has spent a good long time doing pocket duty and stood up to plenty of rigorous use.

Question: Can any of the Pillars of Knifeology (you know who you are) explain some of the history of the gunstock pattern? When did it first appear and who came up with the design?

Everytime the conversation turns to gunstocks I pull up this pic of an early Bose. Just love it (don't own it).

I just let this one go. Beautiful knife, but the gunstock jack just doesn't quite float my boat

Wish I had known that, I would have grabbed that one off ya. Thats a real appealing g-stock to me.

I have yet to *ahem* pull the trigger on a gunstock, but seeing some of these beauties makes me think I should.
