Hi Everyone:)

Those of you that may have visited the Himalayan Imports Forum may recognize my name as that's where I spend most of my forum time. I just wanted to stop in and say hi I just ordered a Spyderco Gunting and Drone (with lots of help and advice from Bram Frank--thanks Bram!! ) and am like a little kid waiting for Christmas!! :o :D

I'm sure my friends will soon stop calling me after I use them as test subjects for my Gunting ( or maybe I should use the drone?;):D )

Rob

BTW, some of you may have noticed an identical thread in the STRIDER forum--seems I thought I was here and was really there...not the first or last time I'm sure:o ;) :D

Welcome to the Gunting fan club! Ok, so it's not really a club, more like a dispersed tribe. I know what you mean about landing in the Strider forum by mistake; I do it all the time, too. There is good stuff there! I am glad you purchased a drone. So many people do not see the point of of a drone, until they FEEL the point of their own live blade! Watch out for the pivot bolts loosening; I had to order a replacement from the factory after one fell out. Thanks, Mike for excellent customer service, BTW! Rex

I'm sure you've heard it before, but it bears repeating.
DON'T OPEN IT ON YOUR LEG! really, you WILL cut yourself, don't do with the drone either, you don't want to get into the habit.
You were smart getting the live blade and drone together, that's what I did and have been very glad from the moment they arrived.

Do you have access to any of the training? Just think of it as a miniature tomahawk, kubotan and knife all in one package. Work with it closed, A LOT, and intergrate it into any training you already have. With just a little experimentation you'll figure out why the rest of us keep going on and on and on about it. By then you'll be bitten by the bug and you'll want to get the tapes or attend on of the seminars to see all the cool stuff Bram has figured out about usage of the tool. After all he's been at it longer then anyone else. (Duh!)

Thanks for the welcome Rex:) I was advised by a friend who teaches Gunting workshops to get both for safety's sake.

I definitely won't!! Thanks for the reminder:)

I have the first Gunting vid. and plan on getting the others soon:) If any seminars come close enough to me (Maine) I'll definitely go!

I'll let you guys know what I think once they arrive--hopefully tomorrow!! I'm making the postal carrier nervous by gazing longingly at her when she drives down my road;) :D

Is upstate New York, (Buffalo area) close enough to tempt you to travel for some training?

I'm a good New England kid..
I still have friends and family there and I guess with enough interest in the Gunting I might make it up to that neck of the woods.
I've been working on Mas having me @ LFI..or maybe Richard will let me use his school for a seminar in Greenfield MA....

Lunumbra: Tito wants you to have a different FAX number..turns out that's the office fax and your fax sat around the office machine till he personally found it..ROFL..

Rob: watch out for getting too comfortable with the Gunting..always respect it..The Drone if it creases you or touches you is natures way of saying do not duplicate this with the Gunting..
be safe..

Bram

Bram, I have access to the Reading Police Academy in the grounds of Camp Curtis. If there's enough interest (Count me in) for a Massachusetts class I can check the schedule there. The academy can be made available on weekends.

Ben

Bram, you and Mas would be a great combination! I have only attended one seminar with Mas, long ago, but I read all his stuff to stay up to date. It just may be time to travel to New England again! I do love Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and western Mass!

MauiRob - Congrats on the pair!

I don't have the drone yet but when the $$$ come the drone will be next on my wishlist.

The knife is a little weird before you get the training just 'cos it looks so odd. But after the training it all looks natural and the techniques become like second nature so long as you keep up the training.

Since the training with Bram I've only missed one day of carrying it.

Yeah and I definitely would not screw around too much with the live blade. That thing is sharp!

Bruise: the Guntings and Drones are Spyderco products. So anywhere you would look for any of their other stuff..........

On the internet, Glasshartt@aol.com is a Spyderco dealer with a very good reputation and low prices. She does not have a website; send her an e-mail. If you want to on-line ordering with encrypted information and all that, I have used knifeworks.com, and of course there are many others, some of them members of this forum. Because of their excellent customer service, I have even ordered from the Spyderco factory store, even though it meant paying MSRP. For EXCELLENT information, go to www.gunting-museum.com, where you will also find links to training and the excellent Skunkworks sheaths for the Gunting knives.

I'm open to come teach back up in NE..actually its so i can eat fried Ipswich clams with bellys...ahhhhhhhhhh
Mas wrote that the Gunting was a historic event in the design of knives..strong statement from him..
Of course its the only tool to flow throught he force continuum something he's very big on..proper use of force.

BOK..you've learned the hard way..your cars are part of learning..
I showed you mine..ROFL..

be safe

Bram

Rob...
Once you go to one of Bram's seminar's, you'll start carrying the drone more than the live. Its soo much fun beating on people than it is cutting:D.

Bram,

I'd love to attend a NE workshop if one comes anywhere within a few hours drive. However, my wife's pregnancy is pretty rocky--she's on mandatory bedrest until baby's due (end of Jan.) and I probably won't be traveling until at least March.

BUT once I can travel I will!!!

I'm not sure how far that is from me. I'm in Southern Maine 20 min from Portland. LIke I said above once the baby is born and my wife has the whole situation under control....then I can think about some traveling:)

MauiRob - Congrats on the pair!
Thanks BOK:) I enjoyed reading about the seminar you guys had with Bram! I can't wait to do some Gunting training myself!

Bruise: Try onestopknifeshop.com, they had the Gunting for 112.00 IIRC, which is a good price. But you may do better somewhere else--Good Luck!:)

watch out for getting too comfortable with the Gunting..always respect it..The Drone if it creases you or touches you is natures way of saying do not duplicate this with the Gunting

I'll do that! Even the ramp on the live blade is scary!

I'm checking out being in Greenfield MA...thats a bit of a hop from Portland ME but not too far..
my brother lived in Portland and we lived in Brattleboro VT..
I've done the trip a few times...
Greenfield is right below Brattleboro...
The seminar will be this spring...

be safe

Bram
