Gunting Clip Question

Hiya everyone,
I just recently received my first Gunting (Which I absolutely love) and had a question regarding the clip. My gunting is #908 and has a black coated clip and I was curious as to when Spyderco went from the Stainless Clip to the Black? Also was curious if any of you had the tapes or a trainer for sale or for trade? :-) Thanks in advance for all of your help.
 
I think the clip changed to black from stainless around number four or five hundred (my best guess). Mike from Spyderco warranty and repair sent me a stainless clip; however, that was about a year ago.

Do not attempt to open it on your leg...OK?
nor your own body...hmmm don't try it on a friend UNLESS its a trainer Drone..
If you got a Gunting you certainly need a trainer Drone..

They have been Black Clips for a long time...
If you want you can always have the clip bead blasted..for example Skunworks does mine with #4 beads..My clips are like battleship grey in color...

Thanks for the reply. Nothing like hearing from the master and inventor himself. I just e-mailed Skunkworks yesterday regarding a couple of sheaths maybe I will have to e-mail again in regarding to having them beadblast my clip also. I really like a blasted finish like a darker titanium. Also do yopu have any plans for any Gunting sminars in So. CA? I am really in love with the design and the way that Spyderco built the knife like a tank. I am even considering buying another Gunting as a back-up in case anything happens to the first. Thanks again for all of the replys guys and keep em coming.

Get a trainer, its worth it. Best part is that it came on the day before April 1. My non-knut friend was over and asked about my new "knife". I said yeah, proceded to open it and "cut" my forearm. The look on his face was priceless. Utter disbelief at what he was seeing. Word of advice, don't perform said act in front of those with a weak heart or your mother.

Hmm I bet if we check out these numbers we can actually find where the stainless clips ended and the black begins..

SKUNKWORKS is going to - planning to buy a bunch of clips and have them in stock..bead blasted battleship grey..I think it will run like rebuilding motors etc..
you can buy it outright..core charge included
you can submit your clip in exchange - minus core charge
you can submit your clip for rebuild- ie bead blasting....
