I know the gunting excels in defensive situations, but how does it do for utility chores?

Works good. The handle is excellent for comfortably controlling and using the blade, so in that sense I think it is a cut above most knives (pun intended) for utility. Oh yeah, and the compression lock doesn't seem too shabby either.

I'm on the road now, with a Gunting and a Wave. The Gunting is getting a lot of utility use. I've been using it for kitchen chores, opening boxes, clipping items from newspapers, etc. The oversize handle does indeed make the knife easy to handle, as Burke said.

My only reservation is that some people may feel threatened by it. I use the Wave around the timid, and open it slowly. I forgot and left my Micra at home.

HolyMoly,Howard, Burke..you guys get the NEMO award for using the GUNTING in everyday REAL life...

THANK YOU!!!

Gunting as a work knife? Why not?

It's got a great using steel (S60V), tough handle material (G-10), ergonomic handle shape and very comfortable, great thumb rest, easy to open, strong lock, and a blade tip for precise work.

Bram - using one to field dress? Maybe a hunter's version named the "Gutting"

You think Nemo uses the Gunting? Ask him what he uses his 710 and Sebi for!

Wow! No abuse, but he does not coddle his blades!

Only wish I had the guts to use my Sebi as well!

Dave, the manager of Publix Fish Dept told me he's using it the last few months to set, bait and fix crab traps..Yup hes using it to cut up raw fish, cut lines, and wood traps, and then cut crabs...
all the time in salt water..
Yes..he washes his knife off and he was very suprised at how sharp the Gunting is and how well it holds an edge..
He held up his hands to show me he still has all his fingers thanx to the shape of the handle...

i love it..plus Dave gives me fresh crab..
YUMMY!
