Gunting, Lil Temperance, Chinook and Tarani Kerambit?

I just got a Gunting today and it is hell for stout. I really like it alot.

I had a Chinook and it also was very stout, I'm considering getting either an older model or a new Chinook II.

What I'm wondering is how the Lil Temperance stacks up to these two knives? Is it similarly stout?

I also really like the looks of the Tarani Karambit, but it looks like it does not have liners. If it doesn't, I'm not interested. I just like dual liners in my knives.

Any input is appreciated. A comparison picture would be spectacular.

Thanks!

I also just picked up a Gunting this past weekend and I'm surprised how stout this folder is. The L'il Temp handle is the same thickness as the Gunting. However, the Temp has 2 nested steel liners. This is a significant reduction in steel which translates into significant weight reduction.

The blade stock on the Temp is thicker than the Gunting but the Temp is flat ground and has a distal taper which results in a lot of steel removal. Basically, the handles are the same thickness and the Temp's blade stock is thicker, but overall, because of the aforementioned reasons and the Temp's shorter length, it is a lighter knife. The L'il Temp and Gunting are my 2 favorite Spydies.

Thanks Guys for the input and support. The Gunting is a grow on you type of tool.
Thanks again for giving it a shot!!!

The Chinook, Gunting and Lil'T are the three MBC rated models produced by Spyderco. Very tough knives, any of them will suit you well.
As far as I could notice, the Tarani Karambit has dual steel liners. Though not as strong as the above mentioned Spydies, it is a great knife.

The Gunting definitely grows on you! We all have our "latest and greatest" but this knife is really cool. I will keep you posted on how it works for me. It is hell for stout! What a great handle shape! Makes my Delica feel like a toothpick!

Ya'll have to forgive Lag3, he's a recent convert, still got the FIRES OF CONVERSION burning! He'll settle down in a day or two . . . Maybe:D

Yup, that's what I was trying to say! LOL! I'm sure it will die down in a few days! (uh,maybe:D )

yeah...this knife definitely grows on you. I know of many Emerson collectors who love the '98 Commanders because of the extra thick G10 slabs. They should check out the Gunting - a well thought out design.

Hey Dialex,

Where did you get hold of the Tarani folder?

It would be great to find one close to home (Europe).

Thanks,
Colinz

Just to clarify something, the Lil' Temp does have dual liners, they're just both nested into the G-10 and a little hard to see.

And yes it's a great knife!

The single liner turned me off of the knife, now I guess I will have to get one! Damn, never enough money!
