The World Head of Family SOKESHIP COUNCIL's Martial Arts Hall of Fame...
( that means a council of Grandmasters) just voted and inducted the GUNTING as the Most Innovative Martial Arts Weapon of the Millennium...
Thank you Grandmaster Sanchez and Grandmaster Hummerstone....
Personally I've moved away from the term weapon myself but, I know it's a standard martial arts term WITHOUT the political connotations )and I am honored and amazed that the GUNTING is recognized by the council.

Datu Shishir Inocalla, one of the fathers of Balisong, a Guro of the Philippines called it the newest edition to the family of Balisongs.: a knife that allows escalation of force and opens within the flow of usage..

Karate Voice Magazine Millennium Hall of Fame inducted the GUNTING as the Most Innovative Martial Arts Knife of the Millennium....

Gads the knife is getting awards and I'm not..GREAT!..what about me the poor designer?
just kidding...

Sal, Gail and SPYDERCO..thank you for making the GUNTING and making this possible...

THANK YOU!

Congrats Bram!

Still the coolest and most effective tool of its' kind. You got my vote (if I had a vote

I'm sure there's a lot more to come for you and the Gunting. I hope you're ready for it.

Take care,

I don't mean to be a downer, but I wonder if that isn't a but myopic. Assuming that it is the 1001 to 2000 millennium that they speak of, that would have to take into account several hundred years of melee weapon development in Europe, and even longer in Japan, etc.

The Gunting is a great and wonderfully innovate design, perhaps the most innovative edged weapon design since the age of swords ended. But 1000 years is a very long time, and a lot has happened.

Taken as recognition from your peers, it is certainly a worthy accolade. Congratulations.

Congrats Bram!!! You deserve the recognition. The GUNTING is still the coolest knife that I own, or that I have seen.

I think the Gunting is really cool. I have one on order. But, as respectfully as I can, I would like to ask, what is it that the Gunting can do that the Police cannot?

Not having held one in my hand, I fail to see what is new in the Gunting, other than the "horn". Is the "kinetic" opening the only Gunting innovation?

Is the short blade with a full sized handle an important part of the Gunting's greatness? It doesn't matter how long the blade on your folder is in California. It is hard to truly believe that how a person makes the decision to use deadly force isn't overwhelmingly more important than the weapon they ultimately use, in any court.

A lot of us have been training with a closed folder as a palm stick for years.

I mean no disrespect. These are just the questions that go through my mind when I look at the Gunting. I would be glad to learn about the Gunting features that I am missing.

Steve,

I have owned several Police models and like them very much. However, comparing the Police model to the Gunting is like the apple/orange analogy.
I'll try to highlight some of the Guntings' features compared to a G-10 Police.

The Gunting:
-A better lock (compression)
-open design for easier cleaning
-Better handle ergonomics open and closed
-Spoon clip and indexing hole for blade manipulations
-A shorter blade (legal in more jurisdictions), but it's a stronger design with better steel (CPM 440V)
-smaller blade/larger handle provides better leverage for CQB / COntrol tactics
-Closed, the design allows for tomahawk strikes, raking with the ramp, pinching with the ramp or horns , butt strikes, trapping using the decreasing radius of the handle, finger locks, thumb locks, wristlocks Pressure point control and more
-can be opened using the hole, ramp or kinetically
-once the blade is deployed, one still does not have to cut. The ramp provides more options
-the ramp acts as a guard
-the teeth on the ramp give good grip and allow the user to choke up on the blade for fine cutting tasks
-uses gross motor skills for the draw (grab and go)
-IMO, is the fastest folder from pocket/ holster to first contact
-has a fully functional safe training drone to burn defensive skills into muscle memory
-comes with a documented program of instruction that is simple, effective and well within legal, moral and ethical boundaries
-readily available belt/shoulder holsters if desired
-has a really cool logo on the blade

I think that's the bulk of it.

Fellow Guntaholics, did I miss anything?

Let us know when you finally get one in your hands.

Later,

Steve

One question: how is the ramp employed for "raking", does it protrude between the fingers in a hammer type closed grip, or must the handle be gripped in an open grip that leaves the ramp and blade spine exposed? Thanks!

Steve,

You can rake with the ramp while in a tomahawk grip (all fingers below the ramp), reverse grip, both of the grips that you mention, as well as raking (ramp) while the blade is locked open.

You can also rake with the horns.

Plenty of options with this tool.

Hope this helps.
