Gunting sheath question???

I was wondering if anyone has a left handed Gunting sheath from SFO (Skunkworks right?)? I have a right handed model that works great. Its awesome. So I ordered a LH model also. Thought I might carry a Drone and a live blade. The problem is I can hardly draw from the LH model. I have to use two hands. A closer look revealed there is no "molded" area for the clip as on the RH model. Its in there tight! Is this the nature of the LH model since the clip is facing your body? I'm planning to send it back next week; for a new LH model if I got a bad one, or for another RH model if this is how the LH version is supposed to be.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

I have the right-handed sheath and the left-handed sheath. The left-handed sheath flat out sucks. The Gunting doesn't fit in right, draw is ridiculously hard, and resheathing is a pain.
My right-handed sheath works great but isn't the greatest kydex mold I've seen. I have a LH black, a RH black, and a RH red. All three look like they were done hastily, with the LH being the worst of the 3. The two RH ones are useable, but I find the LH too unpredictable to use.

My two right handed Gunting sheaths are perfect; however, my left handed sheath is less than perfect (I was even present for the making). I would attribute the un-ease of use with me not being left handed (except to write). I think you would do fine to order a LH sheath from the SFO or Skunkworks direct. If you order from Skunk tell Frank you are left handed and want a good LH Gunting sheath.

Hi WPC, It is from SFO, and should have been made by Skunkworks. I might agree with your "hastily" made assumption TOFC, there is a weird tool marking (?) on the inside also.

This is my first post here, and I hope I am doing it right. Regarding the Skunkworks sheath for the Gunting, they are break-front sheaths, meaning the knife is shoved through the slot in the front of the sheath. I have not seen a left-handed sheath, so I am not sure if there is a problem with them, but try using the break-front method, and see if it pops out OK. I hope this is helpful. By the way, I usually pull my Gunting out the top anyway.

There;s no molded spot on the left handed for a clip that can be seen because it rests INSIDE closest to your body not on the outside away from your body as in the right handed models..

As for being poorly molded..there's no mold..or hastily done...All are custom made...
Each is shaped over an actual Gunting: Thats the only way to ensure the tight fit..

When drawing a right handed model from the left one puts pressure against the clip whereas that doesn't happen in a right holster with a right handed tool..
With a left handed tool in a left handed holster it wouldn't be difficult.
Since I'm predominately left handed i have no trouble..
with either..

My LEO prototype holsters are truly snug..

As to breaking out the front..or straight up..it's out,,put pressure towards the rear and it won't come out..so if the bad guy grabs and snaps it... it resists..
and yes..Frank is famous for his breakout and snap out holsters...

TOC: sorry that you think your holsters suck..I have no comment on that...I guess you'll have to try something else..
I wish you the best..Many people seem to like the holsters..but as in any endeavor nothing can please everybody..
I wish I had a remedy for you..but I don't..

be safe..

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try "pushing" it out and see what happens, but I'm pretty sure I'll be sending it back, It seems to be way too tight. Like I said, my RH model is awesome.

Bram, Coming to Southwest Texas anytime soon? Any of your instructors?

Thanks again,

One LH Gunting sheath in the mail to Mr. Clifton. I hope you get some use out of it. I think I'm going to try to have one made with a G clip so I can configure it in different ways.

Thanks again,

One of my core group students lives in Dallas these days..So I d love to come there...
But if you are intrested in sposoring a seminar in Texas..check with my new USA Director: John Ralston..Ryukyu9@cs.com
He can give you some options..
Maybe theres others you know or on the forums that want to play with the Gunting in your area..

Thanks all of you for trying the Gunting & its holsters..and the accessories..by the input we can hopefully in the furure make an even bettr product...

Just a personal opinion, but I'm not a big fan of the Kydex type sheath material.
You take a beautiful knife, and you wrap it in heat shrink plastic. Eughhh.
For me, it has to be leather, knife/leather just seems to go together, like pistol/leather. I appreciate the irony that most knife scales are some sort of artificial material, and that Kydex and the many similar types of mallable plastic are high tech and very efficient, it just seems a shame to take my polished, coveted folder, and stuff it inside a bent piece of plastic that resembles something I made at school to put pens in on my Dad's desk.
I realise that I am going to incur the wrath of all the Kydex sheath makers, and no, I couldn't do any better so I better shut up. Just my two pence.
Something like this, made for the Chinook.

I just love the Gunting and believe it deserves better.

Leather may be nicer to look at...but for the Gunting where you need speed and practicality in possible SD situations then Kydex probably makes more sense.

Sorry Leo - the link still works for me. Here's the picture below, or try the homepage at http://www.geocities.com/chiseledge/

I just bought a Gunting with a kydex sheath at a local gun show. The sheath is shaped like an L and the gunting snaps in at an angle. The sheath fits in your pocket so the knife will not open plus no pocket clip showing.I slide my hand in and grab the knife and the top of the L sheath hits the top of the pocket and stays in place.I think the dealer called it the Pocket Rocket. It is a very sweet set up.The dealer was the sheath maker and I think he said he sells it for $30.00.Just a thought about another type of sheath.

Chains,

A pleasure doing business with you!! Enjoy and train safe!

Thanks, Jim, I got your "letter" today also. Enjoy.

Mike do you make a Gunting sheath with a G clip allowing varied placement?

Thanks,
