At the IWA Show in germany I was able to handle a gunting for the first time. In fact I was the first person that Gail Glesser tried it on. At least that´s what you told me,Gail, right? I´m still ok Gail, don´t worry.

I would like to thank Bram and Thomas for answering all my questions on the principle behind the gunting.

I was so impressed with all the possible methods how to use the gunting that I immediately ordered a set. It fits perfectly in my martial art. Nearly every technique works better with the gunting.

So it came in last saturday, but the blade on the trainer was scratching on the liner that much that it sounded like a scissor. Called customer service: no problem - send it in!
Today I got a replacement from Spydercos german distributor ACMA Reuss.
This new trainer is much better, but still at the last moment of closing it slides against the liner. This time only a little bit, so I will happily live with it. Looking at the closed blade it looks like the training blade is bend a little.

Then I compared the old trainer (614) and the new trainer (617). On the 614 the edges are rounded, on the 617 not, it scrapes much more.
Can I round the edge myself some?
What tool would you recommend?

Thank you
Dirk

Dirk: they should be rounded...Its a hand operation so the actual person might have not done it enough..I mean what is enough??..
I wish I could hand make each knife but no one would have one..I think you can buff it and get that edge off more..
Remember its a person not a machine doing this and it just might not be as smooth as we want..
Please forgive us for this is still the first run and there are various small glitches in the machine! SPYDERCO has NEVER made a tool like the Gunting DRONE before..
As for it grinding..play with it a bit and it will smooth out..
the tolerances are smaller than a human hair and a small imperfection, etc can make it grinds or seem to hit the sides..play with it..
Mine all smooth out....

Glad you lke the GUNTING System..
Thomas and I wre very happy to play with you and demo..
You are atually lucky..Gail trashed my thumb while I was showing her how to do it..Shes a VERY fast learner..
As you can see it adapts to most martial arts appications very quickly!

Dirk: by the way its pretty hard to actually bend the DRONE blade..its possible but I bet its an optical illusion...BUT if it is..it will be replaced...

Play with it a little and see if it doesn't get silky smooth...
as you saw mine were...of course I play with them all the time...

Bram!

Thanks for the replies. I am happy now with my drone. Time will show if it works fine.

Guess what. I showed the gunting last wednesday to my students. Most are fascinated and want one.

I already came up with some (new - at least to me) techniques. The more I play with it the more I see the value.

I will demo it this weekend to some other MA friends at a seminar and I hope to be able to sponsor a seminar with Thomas in may.

Hope to see you at blade show.

Dirk

Dirk....GREAT please come up with new ways to actually apply it..You have the key..its a conceptual tool that allows each of us to find the way to use it...
I hope to learn from YOU when I see you next....
And yes it becomes the art, WHATEVER art it is we study..it is not art specific...

Glad you like and appreciate it...
