Well, I decided to follow Bram's advice and modify/customize my Gunting.
I took a dremel and cut in some shallow traction grooves in the front guard area.
The feel is 10x improved and I get much less slippage, especially in forward motion.
It ain't pretty (no drill press or vise) but it does the trick. I'd like to work on a technique to get deeper grooves.
Also, it's bizarre that there's a washer on only one side.
