Gurka Kukri or kukri plus

Hey blade forums is the guard on the Gurka Kukri plus really necessary? I’ll just be using it in the bush I prefer the look of the standard Gurka Kukri though I’m not sure if I should get the guard for safety reasons.

Only if you plan to sword fight with it. Just search pics of khuks and see how many have guards .

I have around 30 kukris, including a CS Kukri plus machete. I’d recommend not getting the plus. There is no real need for the guard.

Much more of a chopping tool, rather than stabbing, so not sure how useful the guard is.

I vote regular too. The guard on the Plus might be useful in some situations, were there a choil or just a flat extended ricasso in front of it so you could hook your index finger around the guard, but as it is I don't see any practical use for it.

I've used a "Plus" for many years and haven't been much bothered by the guard . But it's mostly intended to function in weapon mode and adds little to bushcraft / wood chopping . The guard on mine was kinda sharp on the corners until I did some filing and sanding . Better now !
