picked this up today and have been researching and am now suffering from information overload syndrome (IOS)
I guess all i really am interested in is whether this is something I can feel free to make look nice and clean without ruining it as far as being collectible or not. If it is a collectible. If nothing else i thought it might look cool on the wall with my "viking" axe and Scythes.
thanks for the input.

Elbow grease and 400 grit emery paper to start. Then 600 or 800 grit. Then Flitz/Simichrome/metal polish of your choice.

I'd start out by spraying the blade with a can of Ballistol, let it sit overnight, wipe it clean, and then do it again. I've hear you need to not use it on copper or brass bits though. The emery paper, previously mentioned, is also a tried and trusted tool.

I'd just concentrate on bringing the windlass kukri to "showpiece" condition for display as the other is just tourist rubbish. You could find them in gift shops everywhere back in the day and never try working with it as it would bend/snap cutting a twig lol.
Not seen that sheath though personally and pity it hasn't got the tip for polishing up for displaying if you wanted to anyway. Sorry to say but I threw a few away some time ago too after replacing all my "imitation" pieces although I still have a 28" on display 😂
Post pics of the reconditioned windlass...

Take and modify it to your hearts content, or leave it rustic looking. Either way they make fine work tools or projects. I used these as projects for my nephews, it had solid sense of accomplishment for them.

They are not expensive brand new, don't worry about ruining the historical value , the best metal polish I have used:

Simichrome Polish
