Hey all, I have a BK2 just out of my reach, and in true bladeforums fashion, I had to have something in the meantime! I saw this on epray...what could I do?!?!?!? However, I've never seen a Gurkha knife with this kind of tang before (my others have hidden tangs). Is this style common, or am I getting a westernized knife? Thanks for your help!

Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...538023&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_612wt_1167

P.S.- Moderators, if this is an unacceptable topic, let me know!

Thanks again guys!

Looks like you got a decent deal. Beat it and let us know how that steel holds up :D

That style is a common kukri tang variation usually referred to as Chiruwa. It makes for a heavier, stronger tang/blade transition (think emergency pry bar) at the expense of front-heaviness. And I agree with Iboschi, it seams you got a really great deal. Let us know how it works for you.

Now that bidding has ended, go to Himalayan Imports forum on Blade Forums and look at the stickies at the top of the first page. They will give you vast amounts of information about khuks in general, and various shapes and uses.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I have other kukhs but this will be my first "user," as 2 of the others were acquired in Nepal while on a trip, and the other is a pos that I got as a throwaway/beat the snot out of knife. I'll let you know how this one holds up! Thanks again!

Just FYI, if you go over to the HI forum don't refer to it as a "Gurkha" or you'll get flamed. :D ...Khukri is the type of knife, Gurkha's are the soldiers famous for carrying said knife.
