Ambulances are standing by to take your number, now!!"

The first clip i believe is the Gurkha Khonvention in Reno circa 2002-2003? Some of those guys are my age...i would need get with the program to even do this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMlx-5F02Ew

The other clip, i would guess, be the young bucks in a Gurkha unit attached to the Indian Army....and the young buck do tell..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu5UDQsdZB4

This kinda stuff needs to be saved to main site and not lost on a forum infinite treadmill or disappearing forum, period....

I see this just got moved from the HI forum to the "OFF TOPIC" Cantina forum for some reason...ok....whatever....an exhibition put on by HI using HI supplied knives is now off topic.

And what Kami Sherpa/Pala/Yangdu's dad went through when he joined up including footage from his time....47mins long and off topic?....ok...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjXtK-BTA7k

Sorry for lack of grace on the moved topic, but a) i am grumpy in morning, b) if main forum is strictly for SALES then it should say so, c) lumping all other posts together no matter how related or unrelated to Gurkhas, the knives, and the company is a BIG mistake as for accessibility to useful info for aspiring or repeat customers...rather than helping build the mystique, it is smothering it in an ocean (43,000 or whatever threads long) of totally unrelated chatter....at minimum you need a sales and sales question header (including why buy HI over brand-x info)....a review header....a Gurkha/Nepali lore header...a "my first khukuri?" header...the legendary Cantina header for true off topic and friendly chat.....and (most importantly as right now you are FAR too forum dependent for any info not stale by a decade or more!) updated main site including filling in blanks in history, personnel changes including photos/marks/etc, accessible links to videos such as in this post, the video of the New Year party recently posted but unknown to most etc etc etc......this would take care of 90% of repetive posts which wear everyone out......right now, unless someone is a whiz at search engines, this company's identity is lost for all time....it deserves better.

This started as a light hearted and informative to many post....moving to a sub-forum as if a wine making or my new lever-action post shows a serious problem with marketing and far too much a concern over a forum rather than in selling knives which is the reason for the forum in the first place....to draw NEW customers and get them involved in Bill's vision...it is NOT here to serve only the old customers who knew Bill....we are dying off, in case nobody noticed....WE need to PASS THIS ON.....status quo is NOT cutting the mustard.....moving a video of Gurkhas sponsored by THIS company to an off-topic hinterland shows it....

Unlike us, neither the art of manufacture, nor the culture is in danger of dying out. Believe without seeing.

As far as I know the first clip has nothing to do with HI at all and was not sponsored by HI.
Your topic was moved from the showroom sales floor to the Cantina because that is where topics unrelated to HI and sales go. It has been this way for before I even came to this forum.
As for updating these things to HI site.....the site is an archive. It will not be updated. HI does it's business on this forum and all changes are chronicled in this forum going back to 1998.

As for your grumpiness and posts in the vein as above? We hope that you will understand that it is unwelcome and act accordingly in the future.

Unfortunately not so....a look anywhere, including the New Year party shows a vast influx of westernism....

I would also point out a shop (vs individual 3-days per $1500) knife such as Randall now has a 4-year wait list and no reason this equally sized business could not be as successful....they, also, stopped the clock back in 1952 when they added an electric furnace over coal forge....otherwise made using almost the same equipment and techniques as then...and folk are willing to pay and to wait for that quality.

As Bill did, continue to push the spiritual works of mercy aspect, continue to show exhaustive tests (with obvious disclaimer of warranty coverage should owner chop bone or bolts etc), continue to tie the buyer with the mystique of blessings by blood and prayer, the tie to Gurkhas with updated photos and video of all...

And by all means, STOP being so dependent on a disorganized forum where half of "info" stickied posts have no info and are mainly odes and lauds and links to dead sites and writings....the company CANNOT afford to simply depend on a shrinking supply of well meaning aging forumites and among them all, surely a web guru who can sort both forum posts out to intelligibility and, or highest importance, change the main site from a mausoleum to the living breathing thing that brought us older folk here in the first place.

Meanwhile i am done....and will continue to buy, and continue to donate, but as with back shortly after Bill's passing, not sure i will post anymore, as then, and now, status quo seems to matter more than improving things, and helpful folk need to do a gut check on what they are doing.....i might post my sword....or some other product, but until folk look with open eyes as to what it was that drew them, and ask are they really helping carry that forward or are they more interested in a nice quiet pond, i doubt i shall have much else to say, as such comments have gone totally unremarked until now...if Bill's vision dies, you will know the cause...
Blessings on you all, and please THINK about this.....

PS-nowhere to this day does this site indicate the main forum is only a sales floor...for how long now?....a perfect example of closed old-hand mind versus passing info on to new folk without trying to dredge through innumerable posts...this forum exists to HELP customers and sales...it exists to SERVE.

I think the key to HI's success is being happy with what they have. Content with the way things have always been, and not focus on getting richer or bigger or any change at all.

A 4 year wait for a modern day company is a wonderful thing, thank goodness HI doesn't have to play that way, nor would they want to. I believe Auntie would truly rather give away knives than sell them, she's surely not focused on the money.
She lives to take care of her people, simple needs and wants, nothing extravagant, the way it's always been.
Not good to fool with mother nature or their culture.

Personally I'm perfectly content the way things are. Some small parts of your wishes would be nice. An up to date list of Kami's and their marks for people like me with a short memory would be nice.

Simple and small in this case is good. Very good.

Spot on Bawanna.

The heart and soul of Uncle Bills vision is alive and well on this forum. Khukuri, Friendship, Discussion and above all Respect for each other, his vision and the forum. There are many things you don't understand. Where is the money for all these changes you propose supposed to come from?
This isn't our site, we cannot "sort" posts or remove anything here....nor would we want to remove the many years of accumulated knowledge posted here. We are working as best we can with what we have and doing pretty well with it considering the US economy, The Nepal unrest, Earthquakes and just the plain old daily logistics that must be met by one woman and her father to just keep things going in the right direction.

If you all remember, I posted a thread awhile back asking for clear pictures of kami marks so that they could be added to the link library. It didn't get much traction and I don't have all the kami marks myself. If one wants change, they must take part in that change.

mtngunr, most of your post would have been better received, if it had been sent in an email.

I know ya did Karda and I should have remembered and mentioned that. I'm weak in the memory department and failed to acknowledge your efforts in that area.
Sadly I struggle to remember them myself.
I apologize for my negligence.

Phillllll, that picture is priceless and very much worthy of a thread in itself.
It was taken day before yesterday. I'll for sure share some more in a thread of it's own.
I'm waiting for permission from auntie to post a few pics.

The short story is it was the time of my life.

Bawanna you lucky dog! Looking forward to more pics too. Hope you picked up some new toys while you were there

Mtngnr, your request to "think about it" seems to me to be an open statement to all, so here are my thoughts about some of the things you mentioned. No praise or belittlement intended. Only my "thinkings", so take it for what they are worth. In the beginning, I inherited a Tide soap box full of khukuri from my old man's stuff. May he rest in peace. In it was an old, original, Nepali military khuk and I became interested in these odd knives from the far side of the world. The internet explained many things well enough that I wanted a "working" khukuri. A week later I happened upon Blade Forums and found listed under "Manufacturers" on the home page, Himalayan Imports. Manufacturer to me meant "For Sale", and so here I am. And buy, I have. I consumed the entire freaking HI portion of Blade Forums, their personal site, the Cantina, the archives, you name it, ad nauseum. I've literally read every single page and line. I read where Uncle Bill said the Cantina was for off topic discussions. To me that meant First Page was for sales and Second Page was for BS. I had no problem with that and yet still, I too, had topics moved. Wasn't sure why at the time, but it was not worth grousing or worrying about because it was still on this site and everyone could still read it. I was learning the ropes and feeling more like part of the family of the site and was enjoying myself, so what the hey? Now we come to kami marks. Sure enough here's a Sin City if ever there was one. I was stymied, bewildered, and befuddled. I wanted it updated in a big way. I sent emails and asked around. What was explained was that Mrs. Martino is almost a one woman show. She tries to do it all, make everyone as happy as she can (and there have been some real bastards show up here), walk the Dharma Path, keep the business viable, and put food on the table. She is well aware of the site's short comings, but the money is needed elsewhere more than it is needed on the internet. If it weren't so, myriad of us who inhabit these stealth shark infested waters, would not have donated money as many times as we have. Thus, it will happen-- when she can simply get around to it. In the meantime, the old fat boy took it upon himself to obtain photos of all the kami marks he could uncover. Still collecting them, too. In addition, on my desk is a sheet of at least 37 different hand drawn kami marks with the artist's name. This is available to any person who might have need of it. I did not respond to Karda's kami mark request because of my newness to the Forum and I don't have any where near the collection of say Philllll or Kamidog and can't offer much in the way of assistance. My personal opinion with no outside influence of the two separate pages of HI has developed thusly: main page is for sales and legitimate product reviews, plus Nepali updates, both good and bad. Cantina is where I can run my mouth, bad mouth Bawanna and Kamidog to my heart's content, and make myself as obnoxious as I can get away with....and the bull pucky does run deep. And as for Karda, he can get my goat easily enough, but we all lack a certain amount of people skills somewhere and can't make everyone happy all the time. His heart's definitely in the right place, does his job as best he knows how, and even has respect for us combat veterans, so he ain't too bad a guy in my book. All in all, I've had to do a bit of changing about my way of thinking concerning the operation of this site as it relates to me, learn to tolerate some of the assholes that show up here, and have come to the conclusion that I'm somewhat a better person for all the above. Would I leave? What?! And give up all this camaraderie and fun?

Amen Bookie! Would I leave? Nope, what the hell would I do then? Love seeing the banter between you old men...lol, wait, now I done it, Bookie's gonna make a voodoo doll of me in his spare time now! Gentle now.

O.K., Cul, you asked for it. Pins ain't good enough for you this time!

Ok, if the man hugs are over, Bookie, I'll take you up on those Kami marks, and I'll send you any I may have that you don't.

Thanks in advance.

Bookie, I'm not ashamed to admit I love you man.

Love Caitlyn

Too soon Bawanna? Bah, what am I kidding we were all thinking it. Bookie explained it better than I think I could. Not gonna say the O-L-D word, don't want to start feeling them pins and needles the Doc ever so likes to give out on his dolls (or so I hear). I don't know if I've contributed to Karda's thread yet but if not I will! Only have a few different marks (Thamar, Purna, Dhan Bahadur, and Min) but the first three are fairly common as of late so I'm sure it'll help someone! In the mean time it's time to put some khukuri funds in the bank, getting the twitches seeings as it's been a month or two since my last purchase.
